    3. Posted on: Pike County, Al Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Al/Pike/1679 Surname: WOLFE, QUATTLEBAUM ------------------------- We believe that Mary Magdalene or Mary Ann Wolfe and her husband Wilkes Quattlebaum and one daughter migrated from Orangeburgh County, SC to Pike County, AL with her parents. Wilkes apparently served in the Civil War and died as a Confederate P.O.W. in Camp Douglas, Chicago, IL. We're trying to find out if he enlisted in South Carolina or Alabama and confirm that he died (probably of sickness) at Camp Douglas. Would also be interested in knowing if she remarried a Graves in Alabama after her husband's death. Would appreciate any information you all might have about this family. 1 - UNKNOWN WOLFE + ZIBILLA WOLFE 2.4 JOHANNES WOLFE + ELIZABETH UNKNOWN 3.1 CHRISTIAN WOLFE + MARY MAGDALENE UNKNOWN 4.3 JACOB WOLFE + MARGARET WYLDS or STUCKIE 5.2 JAMES DANIEL WOLFE + MARY ANN CULLUM 6.1 MARY MAGDALENE WOLFE MARY ANN WOLFE per LDS Family Group: 1NTS-2CW Daughter of James Daniel Wolfe and Mary Ann Cullum Born: 7 January 1830 per Carolyn Strickland email; about 1826 per 1NTS-20W; she was shown as age 21 on 1850 Orangeburg County, SC census which computes to about 1829 and since her birthday was in January, it may confirm Carolyn Strickland's date; lds Individual Record 1904035 shows birth as 1830, parent as James D. Wolfe. Died: Buried: Married: WILKS QUATTLEBAUM per Carolyn Strickland email of 23 Oct 2000 WILKES QUATTLEBAUM in 1846 per LDS Family Group 1NTS-2BP Son of William Quattlebaum and Jane Betsey Smith. This family has been traced to Germany in the late 1600s. Born: about 1828 per 1850 Orangeburg County, SC census; 1839, SC per 1NTS-2BP Died: 1 February 1865, Camp Douglas, IL in a Union Civil War prison encampment. Buried: Chicago City Cemetery, Chicago, IL per 1NTS-2BP LDS Reseachers: William O. Hatchell, 4 Steeplechase Court, Tijeras, NM 87059 Lola Adams, 42154 North River Drive, Sweet Home, OR 97386 Married: UNKNOWN GRAVES per email; She appears on 1850 Orangeburg County, SC census with Wilkes Quattlebaum, so the date of marriage was probably after the death of Wilkes Quattlebaum in 1865. We have redesignated this marriage as her second for now. Born: Died: Buried: 1850 ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC CENSUS on http://www.rootsweb.com~scorange Dwelling 173/Family 173 Wilkes Quattlebaum, age 22, M, Labourer Mary Quattlebaum, age 21, F Ella Quattlebaum, age 9/12, F CIVIL WAR INFO: Camp Douglas, IL had a Confederate prisoners of war internment camp. Between 1862 and 1865, the camp housed about 26,000 prisoners in temporary, wooden barracks. As a result of harsh conditions, some 4,000 men died at the camp; they were buried in unmarked paupers' graves in Chicago's City Cemetery, located at the southeast corner of what is now Lincoln Park, IL. in 1867, the remains were rebured at Oak Woods Cemetery, about five miles south of the camp. http://www.chicagohs.org/DGBPhotoEssay/DGB02.html No roster of those who died that I can find though there is a monument on site. 7.1 ELLA QUATTLEBAUM Daughter of Wilkes Quattlebaum and Mary Magdalena/Mary Ann Wolfe Born: Sometime in 1849/1850 per 1850 Orangeburg County, SC census. She was shown as 9 onths old; 6 November 1848 per 1XNM-801 and 1NTS-2D4. Two researcher, one shows birth in SC; the other one shows birth in Pike County, AL. Since her parents and siblings didn't move to Pike County, AL until after 1850, Ella was probably born in SC. Census confirms birth in South Carolina. Posted on: Pike County, Al Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Al/Pike/1674 Surname: Simmons, Garrett, Adams, Armstrong, Boners, Cellers, Baker, Williams, Kirbo ------------------------- I am seeking information on the family of Daniel and Elizabeth Simmons who were in Pike Co., AL in the 1850 and 1860 census. They were both born in NC (probably Columbus Co., NC which before 1808 was Bladen or Brunswick). Daniel's date of birth was 1796. Their children were: Sally, Nancy (m. Adams), Kitty (m. Armstrong), Luke (m. Boners), Daniel, John (m. Cellers, Baker),William Leonard, Austin Smith, and Martha. William L. was born 09 Mar 1834 and was m. in Pike Co. to Georgiana Williams, daughter of Rev. Wylie Green Williams; (2) Mollie E. Kirbo. From his bio in "History of Texas" he studied at the Graefenberg Medical College and practiced in Pike Co., being in charge of a hospital in Troy for a while. He was also engaged in the manufacture of salt on the coast of Florida, was captured by the Federals and was taken to Mower Hospital, Philadelphia to practice until the end of the war. He practiced then in Pike Co. and Butler Co., AL and in 1870 went to Parker Co., TX. My ancestor, Dr. Austin Smith Simmons, b. 30 May 1836, in Pike Co. m. Martha Garrett. Who were her parents? One family history said her father's name was John, but I have not found that family. Is there a marriage license recorded in Pike Co.? In the 1860 census Austin was the keeper of the Poor House. From the "History of Texas" Austin also went to TX in about 1870. He discontinued the practice of medicine and engaged in the livestock business. Austin and Martha's children were John F. Simmons, b. 26 Jun 1857 in Pike Co.; Daniel B.; James L.; and two other unknown children (buried in Pike Co.?). Any help you give will be appreciated.
