    3. Posted on: Pike County, Al Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Al/Pike/11946 Surname: Simmons ------------------------- Anita, I forwarded your message to a genealogist in Pike Co. who is a Simmons descendant, as I am, but she said that her message was returned as undeliverable. The only name you mentioned in your message that is familiar to ME is Mary Simmons. However, my Mary A. Simmons, b. 1803/04 in NC married Henry D. W. Jones and they were living, as a young couple, next door to William Simmons on the 1830 Pike Co. AL census. But Mary is such a common name, the two could have been cousins. Please contact me so that I can get you in touch with the genealogist in south AL, and you two may be able to assist each other.

My Goldens were in Chambers and Tallapoosa County until just after the civil war. Some of the brothers and sisters stayed behind when they left for Mississippi and La. and finally Ark. Could we be the same family?

    1. Francis E. Sanders and Barbara Oswalt, Pike Co., AL
    2. I am searching for information on my great-great-grandparents, Francis E. Sanders (born 1777 at sea or N. C., died July 9, 1852 Pike Co., AL) and Barbara Oswalt (born March 14, 1789 S. C., died May 25, 1855 Pike Co., AL). Their daughter, Martha Jane Sanders married Mastin Milton Burks on Sept. 6, 1855 in Pike Co. They left Pike Co. and went to Tyler, Smith Co., Texas. Years later, they settled in Canton, Van Zandt Co., Texas. Where were Francis and Barbara buried? Where was he from? I believe Milton's brother, Joel W. Burks, went with them or followed. He died of pneumonia in Guadalupe Co., TX (near Seguin), in 1857. Milton and Martha were my great-grandparents. Thank you, Shirley

Posted on: Pike County, Al Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Al/Pike/11943 Surname: Golden, Findley ------------------------- In the 1850 Pike Co. census I located my gggrandma, Nicinda Lucinda Golden, 11 years old. She was listed as living with a James Findley and ??? Findley. We are led to believe that Henry Golden was her father. He is also listed on the same census but at different address. At the age of 13 Nicinda married Smallwood Findley. The ???Findley on census does not look like the name Smallwood. Would appreciate any info on Nicinda, Smallwood, Henry or any relatives in the Pike Co. area. Thanks Pat

    3. Posted on: Pike County, Al Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Al/Pike/11939 Surname: Simmons, Gandy, Brazeale, Others ------------------------- There's a site on www.MyFamily.com, named "South Alabama Kin," that may have a few connections you might be interested in. I can have the site send you an invitation if you are interested. The invitation consists of a form letter with a username and password, both of which you may change once you are registered. Send me an email requesting the invitation, listing your first and last name, the surnames and the county you are researching, even if it is Pike County. Another site, a "cousin" to the MyFamily site, is at www.groups.yahoo.com. When you get to that page, you may have to register for a yahoo username if you don't already have one. You may use your existing yahoo account in that case. You can enter a search for SoAlaKin, then look for a "subscribe" link to gain admission without any invitation required. This Yahoo! site is good for queries while the MyFamily site works quite well for posting pictures and files.

Sorry. I have a lot of Simmonses about that time frame but none with those names - yet! I kinda hoped the 9-year old Mary A. Brazil you listed could have been mine. But I find mine was born in 1836, according to a Simmons family Bible. Happy searching... and thanks for your response. Jerry

    3. Posted on: Pike County, Al Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Al/Pike/11933 Surname: Simmons, Gandy, Brazeale, Brazil ------------------------- Pike County was the home of my gggrandfather, William Cleveland Simmons, for a short period during which I believe a 9-year old daughter Edna, and his first wife, Penelope, died. Somewhere around this time he married a Mary Alice Brazeale, possibly from Pike County, and had three more children by her. Later, probably about 1870, they relocated to Butler County, Alabama. I can find nothing on Mary Alice ("Molly"). Any possibilities? Brazil/Brazeale could have been a married name... I don't know. My wife was a Gandy, descended from Gandys in Butler County. Do you have any connections there? There's a site on MyFamily.com, named South Alabama Kin, that has a few conncetions you might be interested in. I can have the site send you and invitation if you are interested.
