Etheral Gilley also had her son James Gilley with her when they were doing the work to find out more about the Indians. We are indian, I have talk to my Uncle Jim about it, and he said they did not change anything about Lucinda. I do not know who started the rumer, but it is not nice. My line of Townsend`s was from Limestone Co., AL around 1820 to abt 1850. Then my gggrandfather went to Giles Co., Tn just across the state line of AL. Also one of my ggggrandmother was Elizabeth Gilmer married Joseph Hanna/Hannah(Giles Co., TN). My father name was William Gilmer Townsendand he went by Gilmer. I am interested in Whitehurst also. My husband's grandmother was a Helon Whitehurst who married Isaac Dykes. She married his brother much later in life after he died. Her parents were James Dawson Whitehurst and Mary Martha (Mollie ) Andress. His parents were Francis Whitehurst. All of them were from Pike County. Carol
Does anyone out there have the 1860 and 1870 census records for Pike County, Al. who would be willing to mail me a copy of the pages ? John J. Cox and wife Miranza in 1860, with 3 sons. John J. When is your Whitehurst reunion? Will look for your Joella Whitehurst in my records. My great grandfather was Levi Whitehurst who died 1853 in Barbour Co, AL. His dad was Simon Whitehurst, Revolutionary soldier who d. 1848 in Hamilton Co, FL. Levi Whitehurst's second wife, Mary Banks Smith, my great grandmother, had ties in Pike Co, AL. Before moving to southeastern AL, Levi Whitehurst lived in Jackson Co, FL. Family legend says he met Mary Banks Smith in Florida. Levi Whitehurst m. Mary Banks Smith 1849 in Barbour Co, AL. The brother or brother-in-law of Mary Banks Smith was William Sidney Smith who m. Sarah (Sallie) Collins. Hello, I am trying to start a family geneology table for my family reunion coming up. My grandparents last name on my mothers side is Whitehurst. They are from Coffee County, a lil town called Enterprise in Southeast Alabama. Do you know of any connection between your relatives in Pike Couty and Coffee County. I have a George Washington Hilliard also. He was born 1879, illinois and his father was Martin Hilliard, his mother, Annette Davis he traveled around because he married in oklahoma and my grdmother was born in TX. Funny coincidence.

Maj. James Pinckard Wood was the brother of my ggrandfather Capt. John Henry Wood (b. 1841) who married Ella Augusta Talbot and had 3 children 1. Augusta "Gussie" Wood m. Furnie Augustus Waters 2-1899, daughter Kathryn Augusta Waters, my paternal grandmother, married Eron Mathew Pickens 3-27-1924; 2. Henry Talbot Wood; 3. Grace Alice Wood m. John Ellis was born 1804 married Margret Saunders/Sanders. Had a son Thomas M. Ellis about 1838-9 in Pike Co. There were other children but I am interested where and when John Ellis died . Any help would be appreciated. Marie
