Thank you for posting Solomon Siler's will information. Is there any indication that he had an earlier marriage than his to Jane O.G. Parks? I'm trying to find my gg-grandfather's parents, and my candidates are James W. Syler and Ann C. Wright who married in Madison County, AL in 1830. I wonder if they have any connection to Solomon down there in Pike County. - Heather

Nan, Go to this site and do a search for Aaron TYSON: http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/ I did a preliminary search - NO WARRANTY LAND was found, only PATENTED LAND. This site will provide the date of the patents, the legal description of the land, the amount of acreage, and the county. Generally the date of the patent is from 18 to 24 months after the patentee actually took possession of the land. The official patent and its date were affixed in Washington, D. C. Patented land was sold; Veterans of certain military service were given Warrants which entitled them to Bounty (i.e.: free) land. I have found info. on an Aaron Tyson. Aaron was a member of McIntosh's Company and a veteran of the War of 1812. He received bounty land (which was sold at Cahaba, AL). I have reason to believe that the land was located in Pike County, AL. If this name sounds familiar to you, or you know anything about Bounty lands please contact me. Thanks for the help. Nan
Looking for this family that is not in the 1880 AL Census: Doherity Winfield Sellers (11/13/1848-02/28/1925) married at Perote, Bullock County, on 12/09/1869 by William Galloway, a primitive Baptist preacher to Mary Matilda Dykes (07/30/1848-11/07/1895). Winfield Sellars and Mary are in the 1870 Perote, Bullock Co., AL Census on page 63. Can not find them in the 1880 AL Census. I need for SAR a document or census record listing his children by Mary Matilda Dykes. Their first child was Martha Sophronia Sellers. John Greathouse (10/22/1861-01/29/1912) married 12/09/1888 Martha Sophronia Sellers (04/30/1871-01/28/1930). An early pioneer, Doherity "Winfield" Sellers was born November 13, 1848 near the Perote, Bullock County, Alabama homestead of his grandfather, Samuel Sellers. Doherity "Winfield" Sellers was the eighth child of Elisha Hugh Sellers (08/04/1807-01/31/1883) who was born in Brunswick County, North Carolina, died in Troy, Pike County, Alabama, married 03/20/1834 to Harriett Thomas (12/08/1815- 09/14/1881) born in South Carolina and died in Pike County, Alabama. Does anyone have a family bible, obit or any document that list his children? Thanks ever so much for your help. Pat Greathouse

Thanks to Ronald Bridges for posting this originally in 1999, this is a re-post for those who have responded to Waters/Wood queries. Does anyone know who all of her children were, what the M. stands for (I have Melinoth?), is the son she lost in the army the same one who died before a month before her or did she actually loose 2 sons before she died? I also have the spelling of her maiden name as Pinckard. "Mrs. Jane M. Wood died at ther home 16 miles east of Troy, Pike Co., Ala. on Thursday Feb. 1884, in the 64th year of her age. She was the daughter of James and Mariah Pinkard, of Monroe Co., Ga., and wife of Augustus E.[vans], son of Rev. John Wood, one of the pioneer Baptist preachers of Western Ga. and Eastern Ala. Our hearts are bowed down with the deepest sorrow, yet we hope in humble submission to the will of One who rules in wisdom. She was attacked very suddenly and within three hours she had passed, 'Over the River.' In her sudden death, as in all things, the Lord was good, for he granted an oft-expressed wish of her life that she might not linger in sickness nor live to be a burden in old age. She was left a widow in 1865, with a family of 8 children, 6 sons and 2 daughters, having lost one son in the army on a short time before her husband. She lived to see all her children grown, all of whom are living, escept one son who died one month before she did. She grieved most deeply for him, felling that the separation time for her Savior called her too; now they are together with loved ones gone before."
In "Wiregrass Roots" Vol 14, issue 2 October 1998 (published by Southeast Alabama Genealogical & Historical Society P.O.Box 246 Dothan AL 36302-0246) there is an article "The Bundrick Family of the Wiregrass and its Ancestry", contributed by Cynthia Nason pages 29-35. It is In her own words: a story by Lena Viola Bundrick Snowden, a pioneer woman midwife who went out west and returned to Alabama. It is about the Bundricks and Strothers. Mrs. Lena Viola Snowden was 90 when she died probably June 1965 in Covington Co AL. The article includes her obituary published in the Troy Messenger and tells that her grandmother was an Indian Princess, daughter of a Creek Indian Chief. Much more in article. I am afraid the story goes back lots further than my Aunt Etheral Gilley, Lynne, and I never said she was in any way responsible. I loved her very much. However, someone did cross out Smithson in the Crawford Co GA book and write Smith over it because I have a copy. I always belief th! at there is some Indian somehow in this family because I knew them and they all looked like and said they were Indian. How it goes I can't say. Don't get upset- we may find the answer yet. Read the article in the "Wiregrass Roots" if you can. I am certain Lena was a remarkable woman and certainly was not trying to misslead us. She probably told what was told to her. I think we all want the truth. All us Barnhill, Adkison, Strother, Bundrick, Rowell, Trawick, Gilley, Elliott, and many more family descendents. Celia Jones
