HILLIARD were quite prominent in Pike Co., AL; however, they didn't arrive on the scene until 1851. During that period it was quite common for children to be named for their father's military leader. 2. Sorry about that other message that was sent accidentally. Anyhow, can anyone tell me who was so famous or prominent in early northern Pike County (formerly part of Montgomery Co.) with the Hilliard name? My Barnett ancestors in northern Pike county used it as the second name for many sons (beginning about 1820s continuing to 1860s), but never the first name that I know of. The practice was continued by Barnetts who moved to Texas in 1850s and later. Am not aware of any family connection, marriage or otherwise, to anyone of that name, so am wondering why such an obvious regard for one or more persons of that name. My Barnetts came from SC to Montgomery Co/Pike Co. about 1815. Could the connection extend back to SC? Would appreciate any info from you folks more familiar with Pike County. Thanks in advance! 1. [AL-PIKE] CROCKER, Henry B. (Alabama)
    2. Pam Burnett
    3. I got the death certificates back for James Hansford (Hance) CROCKER and Mollie Estelle CROCKER Vance and on both the parents are listed as unknown, but I did get birth dates from them. Apparently, both families left Deanville, Coffee County area and settled in and around Phenix City, Russell County where they both died @ 1940-1943. Still haven't found anything on Alice CROCKER Henderson m Sam HENDERSON who was living in Columbus, GA. I have them with only one known child, Ruby Henderson. Any other suggestions? What are my chances of finding a Pike County birth certificate between the dates of 1865 and 1885? ___________________________________________________________ Life is a grindstone; whether it grinds you down or polishes you up depends on what you're made of. - Jacob M. 1. [AL-PIKE] George and Alice Bush
    2. Looking for information on the family of George BUSH b.abt 1878, AL and Alice b.abt 1877, TX or AL. The are in the 1900 census of Pike Co, AL; 1910 Newton Co, TX and 1920 Tyler Co, TX. Alice's maiden name is apparently Smith. In a settlement of land in San Jacinto Co, TX it mentions Alice (SMITH) and George G Bush. The land deals with land that was owned by George W SMITH b.1834, GA and his wife Nancy SHIRLEY. Like any information on this family.

    1. [AL-PIKE] Re: Solomon Siler
    2. I suspect he had a prior marriage, since he was 55 when he maried Jane Park. I'm working on the Park side (Musgrove, actually), so I haven't followed the Siler line back, but only down. Solomon Siler is listed in the 1820 censuses in Conecuh Co., then in 1840 and 1850 in Pike Co. There are 117 entries for Solomon Siler in the Alabama land records index (federal land grants). Unfortunately, what I have is from a history of the country which doesn't mention anything of a prior family. It appears other Silers in Pike county are descendants of his cousins. All I can suggest is that you search family trees. I found a large Siler family tree online, but it doesn't have the couple you mentioned.
