    1. [AL-PIKE] Virus Attachment sent by Patsy Collins
    2. Doug and Joyce Severt
    3. Hello to members of all these newsgroups, I just received an e-mail message from a Patsy Collins (copy of message MINUS attachment appears below) and knew immediately that something was wrong as it had a double file extension. I saved the message to a floppy disk and scanned it with Norton and sure enough, the file is actually W32.Badtrans.13312@mm which is definitely a virus that has been circulating. Here is the way the message looks: Subject: Re: Sims family in Alabama (Lowndes and Pike, eventually) Date: Mon, 30 Jul 2001 11:48:23 -0500 (CDT) From: "Patsy Collins" <patsycollins@surfglobal.net> To: <djsevert@ionet.net> 'Doug and Joyce Severt' wrote: ==== - Good Morning Colleen, and all the other Sims’ who posted - - Our Sims list should be active for quite some time while all of us with - Alabama Sims connections repost to answer your question. That’s good - though; it never hurts to put our information out again. I have 2 Sims - (maternal as well as paternal) lines that I’m researching in Alabama. - My maternal line begins with Waller Sims who married Mary Bradley in the - mid 1810's and settled as a farmer in ...' > Take a look to the attachment. Notice that the message is from Patsy Collins and it is said that Doug and Joyce Severt wrote and the next name is Colleen. I am Joyce Severt and I do in fact research the Sims family, but I have never heard of or communicated with EITHER a Patsy Collins or a Colleen through any newsgroup or personal e-mail. A word to the wise to anyone who reads this, NEVER, ABSOLUTELY Never open a file with a double file extension. Save anything you suspect to a floppy and use your virus program to check it for viruses. What a pity that otherwise talented people resort to this type of activity to get their jollies. I find them to be despicable! Sincerely, Joyce Sims Severt -- "Tell me and I forget. Show me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." 3. Could some one please do a check in the census index's for south east Alabama. I am trying to find the county my ancestors lived in, between 1880 and 1910. William Burl SMITH b. 1840 Henry Co. AL. m . Ellafair SMITH b. abt. 1860 probably in Pike Co. AL. They were married in Pike Co. but so far I have not found them their. Their children are William Gaston b. 1879, Mary Emma b. 1882, Robert E. b. Oct. 2 1883, Walter Grady 1886, Alice b. 1888, Rothy b. 1889, Math Wright b. 1892, Oscar Shelby b. 1894, John W. b. 1897 and Charles b. 1910. William died in 1910 and the younger children lived with other people. Oscar lived with his uncle Jesse SMITH in Geneva Co. John W. lived with a family by the name of NELSON and Charles live with a family by the name of FILINGTON. I believe the Nelson's and Filington's lived in Geneva Co. but am not sure. Ellafair's family were from Pike she is the dau. of Himrick SMITH and Wyeth GRIFFIN, and was raised by her Uncle and Aunt Josiah and Catherine Enzor. I would really like to find out where the family was living between 1880 and 1910 Thank you Janie

    1. [AL-PIKE] Does anyone know
    2. Does anyone know whether the state of Alabama or the county where someone was born, have uncertified birth certificates that you can get copies of for records. I sent in an application to the Vital Statistics to get a birth certificate on my grandfather, putting down grandson as the relationship and my check came back saying that it was for immediate family only.
