Author: CathyThi Surnames: Russell Classification: queries Message Board URL: Message Board Post: Martha, James and Margaret are my ancestors. I don't know who mixed up and gave Margaret the maiden name Jenkins, but I have never seen any proof of it. The death date given for her belongs to a Jenkins who was married to a Thomas Russell and they lived in a different part of Alabama and do not appear to be related to our Russell's. James and Margaret were in Giles Co. TN before moving to Pickens AL. I think they were in Fairfield SC before that as Savilla gives Fairfield as her birthplace. DNA connects this James Russell to James and Isabella Russell who lived in Birmingham, Chester, PA. It is now Chadds Ford, Delaware Co. PA. He was born abt 1710 and showed up on tax records about 1760. He was a weaver. He had a will and lists children as John, Samuel, Martha, James, and Ephraim. There are many grandchildren with the given name James and I have not been able to identify ours, if he is in this line directly. It is possible that this James married to Isabella is an uncle and not a grandfather. I have been working on this line for a long time and it is difficult as they did not leave a good paper trail.
