Author: Holt_Betty90 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: Message Board Post: My great grandfather, James Walker Heritage, died in Pickens County in 1883 but don't know where he is buried. He was a Confederate soldier in the Third Alabama Reserves; that record indicates that he was 47 in 1864. On the 1866 Alabama Census he was living in Tuscaloosa. In 1867 he was on the Alabama voter registration rolls in Tuscaloosa. On the 1880 U S. Census he is listed as James Walker in Memphis, Pickens county. I have been told he was often called Mr. Walker. He was married to Elizabeth Sophronia Taylor in Greene county, Alabama, in 1858. Their son, Thomas Meriwether Heritage, is my grandfather. He and his family lived in Memphis, Pickens county, for some time before moving to Mississippi. My father, Thomas Albert Heritage, and his brothers and sisters were all born in Pickens county. I need to find out in which state(s) James Walker Heritage and his son Thomas Meriwether Heritage were born. I cannot get the Heritages out of Alabama. I don't know if they were related to the Henry Freshwater Heritage in Pickens county. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I live in Texas and am currently unable to travel to Alabama to do research. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
