Seeking additional info on Jasper Newton BLANTON, b abt 1824, TN; m. abt 1847 to Lucy (unknown). They were in TN through November 1869. On 30 July 1870, Jasper Newton BLANTON and family were in PICKENS County, AL, Pickinsville Precinct. "J.N." BLANTON's occupation was Mule Tender; real estate value, $1000; personal estate, $700. On the 1850 census, Coffee Co., Tn, "J.N." BLANTON's occupation was "Farmer" with real estate value of $350; and on the 1860 census, Bedford Co., Tn, District 24, Flat Creek, "Jasper" BLANTON's occupation was Farmer with real estate value of $6,700 and personal estate value, $7,000. In 1870 the enumerator marked that J.N. BLANTON could neither read nor write. However, these blocks are not checked in 1850, 1860, or 1880. In 1880 daughter Fannie with husband Byars/Ryars COLE, Blacksmith, and their two children were living next door to J. Newton BLANTON and wife, Lucy. Two children remained at home with J.N. and Lucy - Nannie, 22, and Eddy, 10. Jasper Newton and Lucy BLANTON's known children are: William H. b. 17 July 1848, Coffee County, Tennessee d. 19 April 1872, Pickens County, Alabama Sarah/Sallie E. b. 21 March 1851, Tennessee m. B. M. LANG d. 16 April 1903, Columbus, Mississippi bu. Pickensville Cemetery, Pickens Co., AL Susan b. ca 1853, Tennessee d. after 9 July 1860 Frances "Fannie" A. b. ca 1855, Tennessee m. Ryars/Byars COLE 24 May 1877, Pickens Co., AL d. after 15 June 1880 Nancy "Nan"/"Nannie" b. ca 1857, Tennessee m. J. T. JONES 25 Nov 1885, Pickens, Co., AL d. after Nov 1885 Mary b. ca 1859, Tennessee d. bef 9 July 1860 Bob b. ca 1861, Tennessee d. aft July 1870 Eddie b. 27 November 1869, Tennessee d. 4 November 1882 bu. Pickensville Cemetery, Pickens Co., AL While on a trip in May 1990, my husband and I traveled through Pickens County, AL, and stopped at a cemetery that my notes tell me was Pickensville Cemetery. There we saw tombstones with the following inscriptions: Col. J. N. BLANTON born Jan. 23, 1834 died Aug. 21, 1900 LUCY wife of J. N. BLANTON Sallie E. BLANTON wife of B. M. LANG Born Mar. 21, 1851 Died at Columbus Miss. April 6, 1903 B. M. LANG Oct. 16, 1846 Nov. 29, 1926 BENNETT HOUSTON, Son of B.M. & S. E. LANG Born June 16, 1876 Died at Fiarfield, Ala. Sept. 18, 1900 EDDIE Son of J. N. & LUCY BLANTON, Born Nov 27, 1869 Died Nov 4, 1882 MARTHA ELIZA BLANTON Died Sep 14, 1868 Aged 7 yrs 5 mo 4 ds Although the tombstone has Col. J.N. Blanton's birth year as 1834, it is possible it was inscribed incorrectly. When found on the census in Pickens Co. in 1870 and 1880, his age, and the composition of his family match that for Jasper Newton BLANTON, born 1824 in Tennessee. Is "Col." a military title or an honorary one? Is Martha Eliza BLANTON a child of J.N. and Lucy? If so, she and Bob could have been twins, and the census enumerator wrote down the wrong state for Eddie's place of birth. If she isn't their child, whose is she? On the 1880 census, Pickensville, Pickens Co., AL, is a Bobbie BLANTON, female, 14, born in AL, living in the household of C. L. DILL, a School Teacher. This appears to be a Girls' School. She would have been born about 1866. Whose child is she? On 10 Nov 1886 a Miss Bobbie BLANTON married W. H. Willis in Pickens Co. Does anyone have access to a 1900 Census index who would look up Jasper Newton BLANTON and any of his grown children for me? The census should have been taken before he died in August. Does anyone know anything else about this famiy? I will certainly appreciate your input. Jennie Lee
