I know that JAMES GUNTER came into Pickens Co., AL c1830-32 out of Warren Co., TN. JAMES'S father, CLAIBORNE GUNTER ( I ) (b. 1760-70) was in Warren Co., TN by/bef. 1812 Tax List of that county. JAMES'S brother, CLAIBORNE (II of the name), left his will in Warren Co., TN, 1835 as "Clabourn Gunter, Sr." - though his father, CLAIBORNE I - was still alive in the portion of Warren Co. which had become Cannon Co., TN, on the 1840 census. CLAIBORNE I outlived his son CLAIBORNE II. In his will "CLABOURN GUNTER, SR." (who was actually Claiborne II) names his son-in-law as JOHN BLANTON. This JOHN BLANTON would have been married to a dau. (__unnamed__) of Claiborne II, who was also niece of James Gunter later of Pickens Co. I should think it rather likely that James Gunter did not migrate into Pickens Co., AL alone out of Warren County, so you might wish to look into Warren Co., TN at the Blantons there, some of whom may have come into Pickens.
