    3. A check of the 1880 census of Pickens County revealed that Eli Stapp was a young black male living in the household of Cato Fort in Franconia township. He was 19 in 1880. There is a young black girl by the name of Mary Miller, age 16, living nearby. This is probably the couple that married in 1882. Colbay Stapp, age 80, and wife, Mary M. Stapp, age 59, are also shown on the 1880 living with their children in Speeds Mills, Pickens County, AL. Drury Miller's family is also shown on the 1880 census in Olney and Bethany, Pickens County, AL; and daughter, Mary, age 24, is still at home. I hope this helps. I don't know if you've seen my messages regarding the Drury Miller family. I am looking for his parents or any information on his family background. He was the brother of my husband's 2great-grandfather Andrew L. Miller of Screven Co. Ga, and lived in Pickens Co in the 1860-1880 censuses. He had a daughter named Mary b. about 1856. There is a marriage recorded in Pickens Co on 2-16-1882 between a Mary Miller and Eli Stapp. This Mary would be about the right age to possibly be Drury's daughter. The family lived in the Bethany-Olney district, and Drury, his wife Julia Long, and probably their daughter Annie are buried in the New Bethany Cemetery. I am interested in any Millers in Pickens Co. and how they might be related to my Millers. Since your Mary married a Stapp, I thought there could be some connection. I have tried to find this Mary Miller -Eli Stapp couple in other records with no success thus far. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated from you or others. ______________________________ > ATTACHMENT part 5 message/rfc822 Date: 22 Sep 2003 13:11:02 -0600 From: sedlacek@nwol.net To: ALPICKEN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [ALPICKEN] Re: Miller-Stapp, Pickens Al This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. My Mary is evidently a 30 year old widow of a Miller in 1850. She would be age 62 by the time of the Miller Stapp marriage. I have never found her again after the 1850 Census. ______________________________ > ATTACHMENT part 6 message/rfc822 Date: 22 Sep 2003 20:37:53 -0600 From: cmiller20@comcast.net To: ALPICKEN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [ALPICKEN] Re: Miller-Stapp, Pickens Al This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. The postings I've seen on your Mary and second husband Colbay Stapp indicate a marriage in the 1850's and three children from the marriage. I know that Mary Miller is a common name, but your information makes me more convinced that this could be Drury Miller's daughter Mary who married Eli Stapp in 1882. I just wish I could find out who Eli Stapp was, I haven't found him in the Stapp genealogies that I have looked at. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
