What is remarkable here is that Juliet & Sam's middle daughter was my college roommate (50+ years ago) without either of us knowing that we shared a common GUNTER heritage. Claiborne (1) Gunter (b. 1760-70) was father of James Gunter (1794-1874) m1 Fannie Mary Tittle, m2 Martha Patricia (Clemens) Wilson, 1837, widow with children. Among James & Fannie's children was Claiborne Thomas Gunter (b. 1818 Warren/Cannon Co., TN, d. 1890 Columbus, Lowndes Co., MS). James Gunter came from Warren/Cannon Co., TN to Pickens Co., AL by ca1830-32. Among James Gunter's children with Fannie Tittle, Claiborne Thomas Gunter (as above) m. Margaret Elizabeth Prude in 1845 and had ten children. Margaret Elizabeth Prude was the daughter of Johnathan and Elizabeth (Williams) Prude, b. 1831, d. 1913 at the home of Wm. Claiborne Gunter in Columbus, MS. Among their children was Crotius (KG: Grotius?) Jerome Gunter, 1847-1865, served in Civil War and died in POW camp, Douglas, IL. Among James's children with Martha Patricia (Clemens) Wilson, Felix Augustus Gunter (1840-1931, Columbus, MS) m1 Frances Prude and m2 Ellen Richardson. It's James Gunter's descendants who are early in Pickens Co., AL. My own Gunter ancestor was Augusta (1) Gunter (a.k.a., Augustine, Gus, Gusta b. 1760-70), brother of Claiborne (1) Gunter, father of James.
