However, I'm not sure that the Genealogical Society there published all the books. Just get address and write. I think I still have address for the Year 2000 Heritage of Pickens co, AL book. May be hard to get now.

They do a wonderful job documenting the history and genealogy of the area. The books are: 1. Pickens Co, AL History and Families, 1998 consisting of 568 pages of info and photos. It was published by the Book Committee which included Kathleen Brown, Karen Manning, et al. 2. The Heritage of Pickens Co, AL, 1999. A book on each county of ALA was published to celebrate the Year 2000. It is smaller than 1 above but a little more current. A different Committee published this book. 3. There was a Gordo,AL book published in 2001 but It is Gordo area and I do not have a copy. However, if you want Pickens co, AL total, need to get 1 and 2 above. The Pickens Co, AL web site has addresses, etc for some of the above. Hope this clarifies the books.

He did show up in 1850 Pickens County as S.T. Savage (32) born in SC with wife, Cathorine (27) born in SC One Son Abner (6) & one Daughter, Melipa (sp) (3) It will be very hard to locate them in the 1840 SC Census, as others before list only the Head of the Household & number/age/sex of the Children. I done a quick Check and there is 15 Savage's listed in the 1840 SC Census. 10 are Widows & 5 Men..... Richard, Anthony, James, William & Zebulon. It will be tough to locate S T's Parents. Your Quest caught my attention because in 1860 Gordo my G,GF Jason Harper and family was there and there is a good chance that he sat in your man's Church Good Luck Ray Harper
Rhonda, I have some information on Joseph DeKalb Ball b 9/9/1841, d 6/22/1894. He married Delia Stapp b 6/11/1847, d 3/26/1912. The parents of Joseph are: Parks E. Ball b Chester District, SC. 1/7/1808, d 4/2/1880 and Zilpha Spraggins. b 5/10/1802 d 3/20/1867 According to the information, Parks owned some slaves who helped him build a brick home. Parks and Zilpha had 13 children, Joseph DeKalb and Delia had 10. If you feel these are the Ball's you are searching for, I will be pleased to share the information with you. Please email me.
