    1. [ALPICKEN] Fwd: GUNTER IN PICKENS CO., AL
    2. --part1_b6.a5cef22.29f56993_boundary Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit SHOULD HAVE ALSO MENTIONED THAT CLAIBORNE GUNTER WAS BROTHER OF MY AUGUSTA (AUGUSTINE) GUNTER - BOTH BORN 1760-70. THERE ARE SOME HINTS THAT THESE TWO MEN MIGHT HAVE BEEN TWINS, IN THAT THEY WERE TOGETHER IN THE SAME LOCALES MOST OF THEIR LIVES: IN BURKE-BUNCOMBE COS., NC, IN WARREN CO., TN, AND THEN AGAIN AT THE END OF CLAIBORNE'S LIFE HE WAS IN MARION CO., TN (1840 CENSUS), WHERE HIS BROTHER AUGUSTA HAD MOVED ABOUT 1818-20 AND DIED THERE IN 1843. AS THESE MEN WERE BORN BEFORE THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR, THEY COULDN'T HAVE BEEN NAMED FOR "AUGUSTINE CLAIBORNE" AS A REVOLUTIONARY WAR HERO, BUT RATHER THERE'S SOME FORM OF FAMILY CONNECTION IMPLIED TO THE CLAIBORNE FAMILY. THE NAME "CLAIBORNE" PERSISTS AMONG OUR GUNTERS ACROSS MANY GENERATIONS. THE FATHER OF THESE MEN (JOHN (1) GUNTER) WAS IN CHESTERFIELD CO., VA IN THE MID-1750'S THROUGH AT LEAST 1766 (CHESTERFIELD CO. WAS TAKEN OUT OF HENRICO CO., VA 1749 AND IS JUST THE PART OF HENRICO CO. BELOW JAMES RIVER, I.E., BELOW RICHMOND). YANKS DESTROYED MANY EARLY RECORDS STORED IN RICHMOND AND THERE'S A GAP OF ABOUT 14-15 YEARS BETWEEN JOHN (1) GUNTER IN CHESTERFIELD AND WHEN HE APPEARS AGAIN - - - BY THEN IN GUILFORD CO., NC (POSITIVE IDENTIFICATION), 1780. IT'S LIKELY THAT JOHN (1) GUNTER WAS A PART OF THE JOHN-S GUNTERS OF HENRICO CO., VA FROM SOME TIME BEFORE 1664; HOWEVER, RECORDS LOSSES PREVENT SECURING THAT ASSUMPTION. THE ONLY NAME APPEARING IN HENRICO CO. GUNTER RECORDS (HEADRIGHT) 1664 THROUGH 1692 IS "JOHN." NO DOUBT SEVERAL GENERATIONS OF THE NAME THERE. THEN A GAP AND IN THE 1750'S JOHN (1) IN CHESTERFIELD. --part1_b6.a5cef22.29f56993_boundary Content-Type: message/rfc822 Content-Disposition: inline Return-path: <KLWRAGEG@aol.com> From: KLWRAGEG@aol.com Full-name: KLWRAGEG Message-ID: <f9.1b02fcfa.29f564ba@aol.com> Date: Mon, 22 Apr 2002 09:06:02 EDT Subject: GUNTER IN PICKENS CO., AL To: drbabs@earthlink.net, KLWRAGEG@aol.com MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Mailer: AOL 7.0 for Windows US sub 121 WONDER IF YOU'D BE KIND ENOUGH TO SEND ME A SKELETAL OUTLINE OF YOUR GUNTER CONNECTIONS IN PICKENS CO., AL. GUNTERS THERE WERE PART OF MY EXTENDED (BROTHER) LINE OUT OF WARREN-CANNON CO., TN TO PICKENS ABOUT 1830. RECENTLY FOUND THAT MY OLD COLLEGE ROOMMATE HAS A PRUDE-CLAIBORNE GUNTER LINE THAT CAME TO TX AND WE'RE TRYING TO NAIL IT DOWN COMPLETELY. GUNTER PRUDE WAS HER GREAT UNCLE. ALL INPUT HELPS! WE DIDN'T KNOW THAT WE WERE DISTANTLY RELATED, 50 YEARS AGO IN COLLEGE! IMAGINE THAT! TRUTH IS A LOT STRANGER THAN FICTION........ FOR ANY HELP, OUR THANKS! If anyone recognizes any of this family group, I'd really love to be able to put some names to those initials. (My mother said there was an uncle Boyd Randall, too--maybe S. B. Randall?) And any clues to help me trace farther. thanks!

It is at the southeast of the county right across from the Greene County line. When I located my relatives plats in Pickens County, I went to the Pickens County Courthouse in Carrollton, Alabama. They had plat books from the 1830's and 1840's. If you call them or write to them, they could probably look for the plats you are seeking. I live California so I only had two visits to Alabama to seek the info. If you want a copy of the current plats, I could fax you a copy of the page. Send me your fax.
