Rev. John W. White wife was Malissa Bridges-she died in 1862 in Pickens Co., Ala. perhaps when the school John W. White was a teacher at burned to the ground during the civil war. Several of John W. The only possibility is that the OBryant you mentioned that was killed on railroad was my Gr Aunt Mellie ORR's husband. What was his first name? They had no living children since their only child died at age 3. All my ORR relatives on my Mother's side came from Pickens co, AL (Reform area) near where I grew up. These ORRs came from South Carolina abt 1850 and been in Pickens Co, AL since. I did find out my Aunt Mellie's death date thanks to a reoly to my query. Mellie ORR had a brother Luther ORR as well as a sister, my Grandmother Elma Jennnie ORR. Look this over and let me know about OBryant. I think Aunt Mellie's first husband was killed about the time you mentioned.

They lived mostly in the N Ga & Tn area, where other fam members worked for the Railroad. About 1917/8, Charles Finley ORR & another relative (O' BRYANT?) were killed in a train wreck/accident. Charles Finley ORR left 3 ch: 2 boys Richard Wentworth 6,& Cecil ORR 3, & an new-born infant dtr Annie. Their mother (an O'Bryant) died shortly after her husband, from child-birth complications. The children's Grandparents, the O' BRYANT fam of Whitfield Co, Dalton Twp Ga took the orphaned ORR children to raise. Luther ORR was Charles' first cousin. Are we speaking of the same family? 1. [ALPICKEN] PRUDE-GUNTER connection to McCullough Co., TX out of Pickens Co., AL
    2. The Prude family trail drive to Ft. Davis was in 1885. Claiborne Prude was brother of John Prude m. Amanda ___. ......[Claiborne Prude's nephew was Gunter Prude of New Mex. b. ca 1906-1910] John Prude b. ca 1825-30 was of Pickens Co., AL. John lived in Weimar, TX for an interlude, but his last move was to McCullough Co., TX in 1878. John Prude had t.b and d. in Weed, NM, 9-1888, age 53 (b. c1832). John Prude and Amanda ___ Prude were parents of: Thomas Oliver Prude (d. age 7, in 1859) Claiborne Gentry Prude b. 1-1855 Fayette Co., TX John Chandler Prude b. 7-1857. "Lvd. Top of TX Ranch" until he d. 1923. Ora Jane Pruett b. Oct. 19, 1877, d. 1978. This couple lived at Ft. Davis, Texas and were parents of: .....Robert Gunter Prude (photo shows he was a baby in 1910) .....Andrew Phillip Prude (oldest child) .....John Govy Prude .....Martha Amanda Prude .....Juliet Aline Prude m. Sam Allen Easley IV, from Easley, SC to TX 1848, lvd. in ..........Georgetown, TX [mother of Kay Gunn's college roommate] Juliet Aline Prude and Sam Allen Easley IV were parents of three daughters (all living, so data excluded). What is remarkable here is that Juliet & Sam's middle daughter was my college roommate (50+ years ago) without either of us knowing that we shared a common GUNTER heritage. Claiborne (1) Gunter (b. 1760-70) was father of James Gunter (1794-1874) m1 Fannie Mary Tittle, m2 Martha Patricia (Clemens) Wilson, 1837, widow with children. Among James & Fannie's children was Claiborne Thomas Gunter (b. 1818 Warren/Cannon Co., TN, d. 1890 Columbus, Lowndes Co., MS). James Gunter came from Warren/Cannon Co., TN to Pickens Co., AL by ca1830-32. Among James Gunter's children with Fannie Tittle, Claiborne Thomas Gunter (as above) m. Margaret Elizabeth Prude in 1845 and had ten children. Margaret Elizabeth Prude was the daughter of Johnathan and Elizabeth (Williams) Prude, b. 1831, d. 1913 at the home of Wm. Claiborne Gunter in Columbus, MS. Among their children was Crotius (KG: Grotius?) Jerome Gunter, 1847-1865, served in Civil War and died in POW camp, Douglas, IL. Among James's children with Martha Patricia (Clemens) Wilson, Felix Augustus Gunter (1840-1931, Columbus, MS) m1 Frances Prude and m2 Ellen Richardson. It's James Gunter's descendants who are early in Pickens Co., AL. My own Gunter ancestor was Augusta (1) Gunter (a.k.a., Augustine, Gus, Gusta b. 1760-70), brother of Claiborne (1) Gunter, father of James. I AM SEEKING BACKGROUND INFORMATION ON CLAIBORNE & JOHN PRUDE, BROTHERS, OF PICKENS CO., AL IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND THEIR OBVIOUS CONNECTION TO THE GUNTER FAMILY ALSO OF PICKENS CO. This line of Gunters had close ties with Lowndes Co., Mississippi where several were buried. All help greatly appreciated! Please put "PRUDE-GUNTER" in the subject line if responding, as I don't open email unless I either know the sender's email address or recognize the subject line. Many thanks! Kay G.

Anyway, I checked my file for any Williams born in NC. The only one I found was a Thomas Williams, b. ca 1814 in NC. Wife was Jenette, b. ca 1815 in GA. Their children on the census were: Mary Margaret Lovcia (sp?) Mary Sarah The first three, born between 1843 and 1852 were born in AL. The others born in MS. This Thomas Williams was living next to a Henry Williams in the 1860 Newton Co. census. Henry was born ca 1838 in AL. I checked other messages you posted and now see which Williams you are looking for. I'll keep my eyes open for them. Williams is such a common name that it's very frustrating to research. Catherine

We have a bound, printed family history put together about 30 years ago, when family members filled out the pedigree charts, and no one, out of the hundreds who responded, knew who the parents were. There could be many reasons - like adoption, etc. It is very frustrating. So I jump at any chance, anywhere. They owned land in Pickens, and two of them were married in Greene. Their land in Pickens was below the Sipsey River, near Greene. We have Williams relatives in Newton County, but most are/were in Choctaw/Montgomery MS. Keep me in mind, and I'll do the same for you. The only Steven (that's the way he spelled it) I have came along in the 1950s. Gordon

I need to learn more about the Hazel Stewart and Eliza Curry. I believe Hazel is the correct name for the male. I don't know much about my Williams ancestors and have found them to be very frustrating to research. I am descended from Stephen William of Newton Co., MS. He married in Tuscaloosa, AL around 1832 and may have lived in Pickens or Greene. Before that, I suspect he was in GA. Census data indicates he was born in SC. His father was a John Williams, b. VA ca 1775, but I know nothing more about him nor his wife. Which Williams line are you researching, and do you know where they came from originally?

On the marriages, I had been working in Greene County and found what sounded to me like a strange combination or a mistake - but don't take that the wrong way if you know it to be correct! It shoed Eliza Curry marrying Hazel Stewart, September 11, 1824. I guess men can be named Opal and Beryl and even Hazel. By the way, I noticed that your name (probably maiden) contains Williams. That is the line that I am researching in Pickens and Greene, because my mother was a Williams. But I see that you are not working on the same line. Gordon
