The first known Huffman that I know of came to Pickens county in the early 1830's. According to the "Pickens County Alabama Cemetery Records" book, one Annie Mills Howton is buried in an "Unmarked Grave" in Salem Church Cemetery, (south of Gordo about 3 miles off Hyw. 86) The only Howton's listed are located in "Unity Grove Upper Cemetery at Palmetto, AL. Howton, Sarah 8/19/1880 3/19/1967 Howton, John W. 7/11/1878 5/15/1936 Howton, William Ernest 9/23/1907 3/21/1927 There are a lot of Drivers listed, but didn't find anything on Edgar & Evie. The book is by Dennis Billings and the title is THE BILLINGS-BILLIONS FAMILIES OF ALABAMA-TENNESSEE. Is anyone familiar with this book? Can anyone put me in touch with the author?     2. Charles, I have a John Wesley Savage in my line, He married Melvina Sturdivant in 1855 in Tuscaloosa Co. Ala. Her father was a Uncle to my gg grandmother Sarah Sturdivant Chism, a lot of this family was in Pickens Co. some related families would be Hancock, Wheat, Gazaway, Nelson, Holloway, Rackley, Johnson, Embry, Hamlin, Brown, The 1860 Tuscaloosa Co. census has John Savage, Melvina, and two children Emma E. 4 yrs. and William T. 2 Yrs. I'd be happy to exchange info--Evelyn

His name appears on the 1850 Pickens Co Census. Would like to know what church he pastored. His wife Catherine and 3 duaghters are listed on the 1880 Census. She has brothers by the name of Robert E Lee, Patrick Henry, Ira Cleveland, Louis Grady, John T Morgan,Stephen Douglas, and George Dewey. She has 1 sister named Ida Lee. Eloise's full name is Frances Eloise. I hope you can find something on your tree about these people. It would be nice to find some family somewhere, since I have never known my real grandparents on this side. Thanks for your resposes.

When my grandmother divorced my grandfather, she sealed all the records of my father's birth, and destroyed all records of her life with my real grandfather. In fact, she didn't even tell my father about his natural father until he was 19. Until recently, I didn't even know her name. It says on the marriage license from my grandparents marriage that his mother was born in Reform, Ala. That is all the information I have.
