Good morning list members ! Does anyone know the relationship of Washington Dobbins to my ancestor Chesley Liverett of Perry County, Alabama? Thanks in advance for considering my request. My research has shown the following...... On January 31, 1872, Chesley and Delilah Leverett sold 80 acres to Samuel G. McLaughlin. The land is described as the West ½ of the Northwest ¼ Section 19 in Township 20 of Range 8 [East]. Recorded October 6, 1880. Perry County Alabama Deed Book SS pages 452, 453. The deed to McLaughlin reads: " . we do covenant with the said Samuel G. McLaughlin . that we the said Chesley Leverett and Delilah Leverett are lawfully seized in fee of the afore granted premises . and we have a good right to sell and convey the same to the said Samuel G. McLaughlin ." Chesley Leverett paid Real Property tax on this land described in the above deed in 1849, 1850 and 1851. See note #1 below. According to the Bureau of Land Management Eastern States, online at www.glorecords.blm.com , the following men were issued land patents in Perry County Alabama: Thomas Barnett and William Barnett on August 1, 1831 (NE ¼ S19, T20N, R8E); William Barnett on October 15, 1835 (E ½ NW ¼ S19 T20N R8E); Washington Dobbins, September 13, 1847 (W ½ NW S19 T20N R8E ); William Duncan on July 28, 1838 (SE ¼ S19, T20N, R8E); and Frances Lagrone on May 20, 1841 SW ¼ S19 T20N R8E. No deed record of sale of land by any of these men to Chesley Leverett has been located at the time of this writing. A visit to the Perry County courthouse again was required to look for this elusive land purchase. Using the 1880 deed description of the land I found that in 1836 William Dunklin sold land described as (W ½ NW S19 T20N R8E) to John Dobbins; in 1838 John Dobbins sold the same land to Washington Dobbins; in 1847 Washington Dobbins sold the same land to O[za] C. Dobbins; in 1851 O. C. Dobbins sold the same land back to Washington Dobbins. (see note #2 below). Now, in 1839 Daniel Dobbins married Any Lagrone and on the original marriage bonds Chesley Liverett was a bondsman for Daniel. (see note #3 below) This is the earliest record recorded in Perry County, Alabama, I have for Chesley. Chesley married Delilah Lagrone in January of 1841 in Perry County, Alabama. (See note #4 below) An attempt has been made to determine a relationship between Dobbins and Leverett. As a result I would like to share the following for those list members who research the Dobbins surname in Alabama. Oza C. Dobbins leaves a will in which he names his father, John and mother, Phoebe Dobbins. Also listed are his sister, Sarah Ann; niece Amanda J. David Gentry is named executor of the will dated September 30, 1863. Other heirs named by Oza are Reason Dobbins in Louisiana; Washington Dobbins in Perry County; Daniel in Perry County; Emanuel in Bibb County; Mrs. E. Gentry [who is Mrs. David] of Perry County; and Sarah Dobbins of Perry County. (See note #5 below.) 1.
