Re: James Cardin 'fraid I can't help you with known facts; however, I would urge you to write out all the names that could possibly be written, sounded, misheard, or transposed for the surname Cardin and try searching the 1840 and 1850 census with that. I was searching for James Cave for years...never found it indexed...finally found him...it was indexed as CARE - but it was clearly CAVE (to us) on the census... So...best of luck...
