Unfortunately there is no mention of Howard, Grove Hill, Felix, or Pine Belt in the index of the book. I did find a brief, but vague, mention of a "Pine Barren Association". No location was given. The Baptist book has 250 pages for the 1800's and nearly 400 pages for the 1900's. While many people are mentioned, the book seems to cover a lot of theological and political issues. Sorry I couldn't turn up anything for you. Kim in AL CLARKE, RUFFIN, PARNELL/PYRNELLE

    2. Kim, you came along at a good time; I am at a dead end. My great-great grandfather, J.A. (Josiah Alexis) HOWARD was a Baptist minister in Alabama, traveled in Texas, and came back to Alabama where he died in October, 1928. His obituary in Selma stated he had served as pastor of Grove Hill, Felix, and Pine Belt Baptist churches. Is there any mention of him in this book at any particular time? So far we have identified the following children for Ellender and her McNeely husband: James, born 1804/GA; Joseph, born 1805/GA; Issac C., born 1808/Georgia; Robert P., born 1811/GA; T.G. (probably Thomas Grier), born 1820/Al; Cornelius P. born 1821/AL. The family left Georgia for Alabama between 1815 and 1820 -- probably settling immediately in Perry County, AL. Ellender's McNeely husband died (probably in Perry County, AL) between 1825 and 1830. Ellender stayed in Perry County, Alabama until the 1850s when she and all of her sons (except Cornelius??) moved to Texas. The sons moved from Alabama to Texas at different times, but from what we know, basically within the 1850-1860 decade: Joseph is in Texas (Henderson County) in 1850; T.G. is in Texas (with Ellender) by t! he late 1850s (Anderson County); James and Robert arrive at different times in the late 1850s in Texas (Smith County -- James having spent a few years in Pickens County, AL); and Issac C. arrives in the early 1860s (Henderson County) having spent a few years in Louisiana. If this family sounds familar to you, we would like to hear from you with any informaiton that you have.

    3. Did your Fisher's stay in Perry Co.? My branch of the Barnett's stayed in Perry Co., at least for the most part. My mom and her sister and all their offspring (including me) no longer live there, but much of the family is still there, or in Hale Co. Please let me know what you find when you get a chance to check those other sources. I am pulling my hair out with this branch and running out of things to try to get this figured out. I have printed your note and will do some checking with a lady I know that has lots of info on Perry County folks. I know that two Fisher ladies married into the Barnett family and I think they were sisters of our John. We believe John may have come to Ala from Bedford Co. Tn. Nancy's father, John Hopkins died there in 1813 from wounds suffered in the war of 1812. Elizabeth Hopkins received land in Ala due to his being in service with Andrew Jackson. Where John and Nancy met is still a mystery. I have a copy of the church minutes that Nancy's Grandmother was a founding member of in Oconee Co. Ga in 1799. I will check it for Barnetts. Many times these folks moved in groups. Needed to when they were moving into indian teritorry. Ala was not a state at the time John and Nancy married. Please lets keep in touch. Zion Methodist Church was founded in 1822 northwest of Marion with graves as early as 1830. For Methodist information, try the book, Some Early Alabama Churches, by Mabel Ponder Wilson and also the book, History of Methodism in Alabama and West Florida, by Marion Lazenby. Both list many names. The History was compiled from notes of every annual conference. You can track the church assignments of ministers. Often, there are announcements of deaths of ministers and spouses. I found both of these books at my local libraries. The Huntingdon College library in Montgomery, Alabama has the archives for this part of the Methodist church. www.huntingdon.edu If you are in a part of the country where you can not access these books, I will do a look up for you when I get a chance.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/JU.2ADI/94.2.1 Message Board Post: Hi Betty, I have a John & Nancy Fisher living in Perry Co. AL. John Fisher bought 40.1 acres in the Brush Creek community (6E 21N section 1 aliquot NENW) in 1835. Then, I find them in the 1840 and 1850 census. I estimate that John was born in 1795 and Nancy in 1798. Both state they were born in GA. In the 1850 census there is a 34 year old female Fisher living with them, born in TN, and several males that were born in AL. I searched early marriages in GA, TN, and AL and the only marriage that fit these facts was John Fisher married Nancy Hopkins in Marengo Co. 30 Sept 1818. Of course, a 34 year old female in 1850 would have been born before this marriage, but I am not convinced that this was their daughter, could have been a relative of some sort, even John Fisher's younger sister. Also, in 1860 I find a T. W. (probably Thomas) Fisher living in the Brush creek community, very close to the location where John Fisher lived. I also find several Fisher marriages in early Perry Co., notable for me Thomas Barnett and Susanna Fisher, 12-Feb-1823 and James Barnett and Betsy Fisher, 24-Jun-1820. I am working on this line because of where the Fisher's lived. My ancestor, Levi Barnett lived in the Brush Creek Community. As close as I can figure his home was in the township described as 6E 21N section 1 aliquot NENW or NWNE. I suspect that Levi's mother's name was Frances and he had at least one brother, Stephen Thomas Barnett (born in GA. died during Civil War, buried at Old Salem) and possibly a sister, Delaney. Both parents were born in GA. I think that Levi's parents came to AL after 1821 and before 1835, and that his father died before 1850, but I cannot figure out who the parents were. It could be that the Fisher's and Barnett's were just neighbors that intermarried, or maybe there was more of a connection. That's what I'm trying to figure out in hopes that it leads me to the parents of Levi Barnett. Do you have any connections here?

I found them all but Pleasant, on the 1880 Perry CO Census. James M. Lee, 48, Kathrine C. Lee, 53, and Dianna B. Lee, 11. Haven't been able to locate Pleasant between 1870 and 1920.
