My great great great grandparents were William Henry Hartley and Clarissa GARY Hartley. She was the daughter of William Gary I believe I do have some information on the Garys, but it isn't much , b/c they are a very hard family to do research on. I do know that Clarissa either had a brother named Milton, and I believe she had a brother named Harvey. I know Harvey is buried at Old Salem Cemetery in Perry County, AL.

    2. Helen, Thanks for the information on Minnie Patterson/Bird McFarland. It still amazes me that I just happen to pick up that census printout and going over it when saw your email. I had overlooked Minnie's sisters (Sophia/Adeline and another one). I read my "pages of scribbling, etc like I do a book, hoping that something will just out to me. Please keep your eyes open for Wm. Martin Holt, Sr/Araminta Jane Pounds and their son which was my grandfather---Wm..... Martin Holt, Jr/Nancy Everline Gandy. I have enough of the stubborness of the Holt not to give up plus is so important to me. Dad said all my life that "a 100 years from now, one one will ever know he existed" I want to see that doesn't happen and that my kids, grandchildren have it all typed, ready when they get ready. Stanley (hubby) had his all typed on both sides of his family and really isn't important to him. Usually way it goes. Happy hunting on your Fowler, etc., family. I hope the census that I sent helped some on the unnamed children. Nell

    1. Re: [ALPERRY] Re: ALPERRY-D Digest V03 #136
    2. Helen, I am sorry to confuse you about where I came into the Fowler family. My line is Wm. Robert Gandy/Mary Virginia Patterson, His parents were Henry Hunt Gandy/Evalyne/Emile Lenoir. Mary's family was John W Patterson/Nancy Moore. I connect to the Fowlers thru the Gandy side of my family--I think. It is strange that you mentions Elizabeth Jane Doss marrying Bird Griffin McFarland (you said but must be 1900), Minnie Patterson was also married to him if records correct. She was the sister to my great grandmother (Mary Virginia Patterson) I have the 1900 Perry co, ALA census John W Doss (45) Nancy E (45) George R (18) Joseph M (11) Bevie D (10) Vadna L (8) Eugene J (6) Eva (1-1897) Elvie (1-1897) The next line list Wm. Fowler (49) Sarah (45) Mary J(28) Louis W (14) Susan M (12) Elma N (10) but don't have next page. John P Cash is listed first (his mother and my great grandmother (Araminta Jane Pounds were sisters) Wm. Robert Gandy/Mary Virginia Then Green Fountain/Mary----Absolum James/Adeline (married sister to Minnia and Mary)----Jack Mizzle/Tisha which was Mertisha? (this was sister to the above)--- then the next line is John Doss/Nancy the Wm. Fowler. It was strange that I had gotten that page and over it when found great great aunts then in middle of family was this Doss name. This is the website for someone that is kin to the Fowler/Fountain/Baggett and others. http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/w/a/l/Marlene--Walker. Write her and she can help on that line. I am trying to trace my dad's side--Wm. Martin Holt, Sr/Araminta Jane Pounds also Wm. Martin Holt, Jr/Nancy Everline Gandy. I can find lots of the Gandy's but NOTHING on the Holts. My grandfather came to Bowie co, TeX from Bibb Co., ALA around 1902. Lots of the Fowler family, etc. Were already here. Her family and mine lived around 20 miles from hers and I never knew had family there. A sister's son and another sisters 3-4 children came to Texas and didn't have connect that I can find from cousins. That is the saddest thing can think of. I will find how we connect someday. Please keep you eye out for Martin Holt in Ala. Nell

    1. Re: [ALPERRY] Re: Bird Griffin McFarland
    2. Helen Allen
    3. Nell, Bird Griffin McFarland did marry Minnie L. Patterson and had two children, John D. McFarland b. ca 1894 and Thomas B. McFarland, b. abt. 1900. Minnie must have died probably in childbirth with Thomas. He then married Elizabeth Jane Doss ca 1900, it was Bird's second marriage and Eliza's first according to the 1910 census. Census shows they had been married 10 years. They had Robert W. McFarland ca 1904, Irene McFarland ca 1905 and Vernon McFarland abt. Feb. 1909. I should look at the later census to see what other children they had, if any. Bird was a son of Daniel M. McFarland and Perotine S. Muse. The McFarlands were intermarried with my Griffin family in Perry County. Marlene Walker and I have corresponded a long time to help each other on our research. I am glad you sent me her website however, because I think I had misplaced it. We are cousins in several ways, especially Fowler.

    3. Nell, Are you a descendant of John W. Doss and Nancy? I am a descendant of John W.'s aunt Nancy Doss who married Wiley W. Fowler. I have John and Nancy (Lathem) had 12 children. I got the information from the 1880,1900, 1910 and 1920 census. On the 1880 census they had Eliza J., age 1, and also in the house was Mary E. Lathem, age 14 sister-in-law of John W. so apparently Nancy was a Lathem. Do you know what her father's name was? Here are the children I have for John W. and Nancy: 1) Elizabeth Jane Doss b. 30 Mar 1878 m. Bird Griffin McFarland abt. 2000. ( I have 5 children for this couple); 2) George R. Doss, b. Sep 1881 m. Daisy in abt. 1902; 3) Unknown child Doss b. est. 1883; 4) Unknown child Doss b. est 1885; 5) Unknown Son Doss, b. 1886, died est. 1907, his son Densel or Donley (hard to read correctly) b. ca 1907, he is on the 1910 and 1920 census with John W. and Nancy as a grandson; 6) Joseph W. Doss, b. Nov 1888, m. Emma, had son Linton in 1908; 7) Bevie D. Doss, b. Oct 1889; 8) Vedna L. Doss, b. Feb 1892; 9) Eugene J. "Gene" Doss, b. 1894; 10) Eva Doss, b. Jan 1897 (twin) m1) Madison Young est 1919 and m2) Sam Moton est. 1925; 11) Elvie Doss b. 1897 (twin); and 12) Sarah E. Doss b. ca 1900. Can you help me with some of the missing information? How are you a Fowler descendant? 1. [ALPERRY] Re: ALPERRY-D Digest V03 #136
    2. Bob, I can't believe this happen but it did. I came across the name George Doss among my family (John P Cash who was son of Henry Cash/Martha Pounds), Wm. Robert Gandy/Mary Virginia Patterson who were my dad's great grandparents. Absolum James who married Addie Gandy, James Mizzles who married Tisha (Mertisha Gandy), I am kin to the Fowlers way back in genealogy and in fact the John P Cash was kin but can't remember. I am tracing so many family lines that can't remember. I have listed in 1900 Perry Co., ALA census John W Doss (10-1864) Nancy E (3-1865) children: George R (9-1881) Joseph M (11-1888) Bevie (girl-10-1889) Vadna D (2-1892) Eugene J ( 2-1894) Eva (1-1897---Evie 1-1897) William Fowler (6-1853) Sarah E (1-1854) Mary J (12-1871) Louie W (10-1883) Susan M (8-1887) Elma N (8-1889) I don't have the next page. There is also listed a Green A Fountain married Mary. I know the Fowlers/Fountains are kin Bob, I am sorry to type all that in just to find out that you were looking for George W Doss instead of John. I saw the Doss and Fowler and overlooked it. I have the webpage for a girl that is kin to the Fowlers/etc that listed. Write me and I will try to get you connected to her because she goes way back on Fowler and might have on the Doss. Sorry to get so excited for you and wasn't the right one. Maybe George and Wm are kin. I have lots of family that are buried at Mt Olive cemetery in Perry Co., ALA so maybe we can connect. I am looking for Wm. Martin Holt/Aramainta Jane Pounds also Wm. Martin Holt, Jr/Nancy Everline Gandy. Nell Nell
