I have a John, Jr. Waggoner born January 23, 1797 and married 1st Elizabeth Topley and later Julia LIghtner and he had a son Henry who was my great grandfather. John, Jr. father was John, Sr. who was born May 11, 1762. If you want to send me an email I can send you a PDF file on both of these. Perhaps a sibling of theirs could give you a clue.

The Autauga Genealogical Society will meet Sunday, April 18, at 2:00 p.m. at the Prattville Library. The program, presented by Bob McLendon, will be "Anatomy of an Alabama Regiment". The information is taken from about 20 years of in-depth research on the 53rd Regiment, Alabama Calvary, also referred to as the 53rd Alabama Partisan Rangers. As well as what the regiment did during the war, Mr. McLendon has compiled biographical and genealogical information on the men who served in the 53rd. This Civil War regiment was comprised of men recruited not only from Autauga but also from nearby counties, including Coosa, present day Elmore, Montgomery, Butler, Lowndes, Pike, Dale and Coffee Counties. Election of officers will also be held. Visitors are welcome to attend the meeting.
The Pace Society of America will hold its national 2004 reunion at The Legends in Prattville, Alabama, June 24 - 26. Events begin Thursday evening with a dinner and program. On June 25 there will be a choice of a tour of interesting sites in Montgomery, research at the Alabama Archives, or golf at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. On June 26 a breakfast/business meeting will be followed by Pace genealogical research presentations. The concluding event will be a banquet and program on Saturday evening. For further info and/or a registration form call 334-279-8094 or 334-279-4934. Anyone with the surname of Pace is eligible to attend.

The rail line didn't go any further than Jerico. Does anyone know about this railroad? Do you have any information about when it was there? What was it's primary purpose? Is part of this rail line still visible? Thank you. Todd Sanders

I have been researching my family tree. Mostly Robinson, Lawson, Hudson, Black, Cross. I was wondering if anyone has done any work on the Zion cemetery or the Robinson Memorial Gardens out on Rt 2 in Uniontown? I am in need of some basic help regarding these sites. I am looking for burial markers or lists of those people buried in the cemetery. Any information or leads that you may have would be great. I am stumped. I have heard that most of the cemeteries are covered over with grass and that cows feed there. Thanks, April

Possibly some of those names on the census with James and Mary in AR are relations. At that time, 1860, William and Martha would probably have been the only children as my Gr. Father, William J. was b. 1857 in Bibb Cnty., AL. I failed to mention another detail recorded on James CSA service record, and indicated in some censuses. His Father was b. in KY, and Mother b. in TN. thanks glen

The location of James' birth will help me find the family in Tennessee. I knew they had lived there, but had no way of knowing where. My ggrandfather was George S. Chapman whom I believe, but cannot prove was a nephew of James and Abner. His father was William Chapman (b. 1808 in S. Carolina) and I believe his grandparents were Enoch Chapman (b. 1793 S Carolina) and Nancy Parker. (b. ca. 1789 Virginia) They are buried in a small Chapman family cemetery in Perry County, Alabama. Their son, John sometimes lists his birthplace as S. Carolina and sometimes as Tennessee in Census records. George also moved to Texas (twice). He lived in Anderson County (Palestine) in 1860. I have lost him during the Civil War. In 1867 he married Eleanor Adair Lide in Perry County and they returned to Anderson County where their first child (James Lide) was born. Soon after that they moved to Colorado County where they spent the remainder of their lives and are buried. My grandfather was their youngest son, Perry Adair. Your story about James being orphaned makes me wonder whether Enoch had a brother who moved with them to Tennessee and some of these people are first cousins, not brothers. I will let you know if I get further information. Please keep in touch. Judy

Grandfather, James O. Chapman, and wife Mary. The dob is most likely correct (there are some inconsistancies reported in different censuses but he reported in his CSA military record he was born in Knox Cnty., TN, in 1818) I have never seen any records with any children except Martha, Ruth, William J., John W., and James Edward. I know for sure he was in MS in 1863 because he enlisted in Co. E, 3rd Battn., Mississippi State Troops in Starkville, MS, Feb. 4, 1863 and his unit, along with all other CSA troops, were surrendered at Vicksburg, July 4, 1863. I have never been able to place Mary and family in MS during 1860's. Perhaps they were in arkansas. The family is reported to have arrived in Hill Cnty., TX, just about 1870. I know nothing of James Parents, or siblings. He is reported to have been orphaned as a child and grew up in the home of a Mr. Vaughan / Vaugn, in TN. Have nothing further on Vaughan / Vaugn. Thanks again for your response. I would surely like to break through this wall and definitely determine who Parents, and Siblings were. Are you connected with Chapman's? Glen
