    3. Hi, Sharon, I'm not real sure what race she was but family lore always said my grandmother was part Indian. I have now gotten information that the Indian came from her mother's side and that her mother was half Indian. If that is true, I would guess that Martha was Indian. I also have a picture of her from "The Heritage of Perry Co." and she certainly appears to be Indian. Do you have anything at all on her? I have quite a bit of info on the Tubb & Tucker families but nothing on her. I live in Ga. and I just don't think the information I need is going to be found online anywhere. If it is, I haven't found it in the last 6 years. 3. Hey All I'm new to list but been doing some research off and on. I'm looking for information concerning Joshua and Aaron Griffin. They were two mulatto boys that were listed in Archibald H. Children were black dutch 3. Children were Cherokee My father has recently told me that they lived out in "The Griffin Settlement". I had heard years ago about the Griffin Settlement and that it was where all the half and half Griffins lived but had not associated it with Joshua and Aaron. As it turns out, according to my father, that is who started the settlement because they were pretty much outcast. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/JU.2ADI/922 Message Board Post: Hey Everyone I'm still researching! lol Okay, I'm looking for any information on The Griffin Settlement around Hale and/or Perry County Alabama. This settlement was "where the half and half griffin's" lived. They were not allowed to go to public school so they had their own school known as The Elliot Creek School. The Griffin's that started this "settlement" were descendants of Archibald Hilary Griffin. His daughter Sarah Ann, had two children listed as mulatto; Aaron and Joshua. These children were born in 1847 ( Aaron) and 1839 (Joshua). They can be found on the Perry county census 5 Mile Roll 12 Book 1 (page 8 and 9) They can also be found in the 1860 census Perry County, Five Mile Roll 20 Book 1 page 510. Archibald did own slaves. But during those time no slave names were listed. I would love to find a will that might offer such a listing. Does anyone have access to such files? In later years Sarah Ann can be found in the household of either boy listed as mother. Problem is, I'd love to know who the father was. There are rumors that he was a slave by the name of Dawes Dixon of Dixon Dawes/Doss or some variation of such spelling. No proof at the present time other than to say that Joshua named one of his children John Doss/Dawes. These descendants grew up being told they were "black dutch" and "cherokee". They were listed as mulatto on census. Their mother was listed as white daughter of Archibald Hilary. Many Duncans married into this line as well, Lilly Duncan married Lee Griffin, son of Joshua. Lilly's sister married Newborn Griffin, son of Aaron. Margaret Duncan, daughter of Lilly Duncan married Thomas Edgar Griffin, son of Aaron. If anyone knows ANYTHING about this...rumor or documented proof..please let me know. Thanks so much Sharon Griffin-Cobb

    3. The Alabama Archive website has most of them listed. Most of the Perry County boys served in the same company and fought in most of the major battles. My great grandfather William David Hopkins was about 19 years old during the war. I did not believe all the battles he was in until I did further research. It was amazing.
