Jill McKenna posted a query on 2/19/99 on FTM's Howse GenForum that she was looking for the parents of Caroline Hand Howze who married John H. Ogburn (a doctor). Jill said they had a child Eugenia Elizabeth Ogburn, b. ABT 1850 Clark Co., MS. As you can see from my posting, Jill was talking about the same person as my Rebecca Caroline Howze. However, as you can see I don't have a Martha (is Hand her maiden name?) Howze. If my Rebecca had a middle name of Hand, perhaps taken from her mother's maiden name, then Martha Hand may have been a cousin who Samuel Howze. I'm sorry I can help more but I think there is a Hand family involved in my Rebecca's ancestry. Please keep me in mind if you learn more and I'll do the same for you.

My Jesse Campbell was born in SC about 1820 and married a Rebecca McMakin in 1846. They removed to Gordon Co. GA about 1850 and then went further west to Perry Co. AL by 1860. As far as I know, Jesse only married once. In 1865 he came to Houston Co. TX where he resided until he died in 1879. Interestingly, back in SC there is a Jesse Campbell, a.k.a. Jesse Couch. I have never been able to determine why this individual had two last names. Is your Couch name related to the Campbell name as well.? Tell me more about your Jesse Campbell, i.e. where was he born, etc. My Jesse apparently had a middle name that began with a "C" but we do not know what the letter stands for. Please let me know if you received this message. Any help on your end would be appreciated too. Best of luck, Rickey Campbell [email protected]

You and my husband have ancestors in common: James Andrew McCLURKIN and Mary Margaret KIRKPATRICK. Their son, James (who married a woman named Amanda) died very young (one source says at the Battle of Vicksburg, though I have yet to find the evidence of that). James and Amanda had 2 sons that didn't get along: John, who never married; and James Edward, who became a Baptist preacher in Texas and married Lucy Bell O'GWYNN. Rev. McCLURKIN is my husband's gg-grandfather (I have attatched a copy of the only photo I have of Rev. James Edward McCLURKIN). We learned about Rev. McCLURKIN's family tree last summer when a very old typewritten family tree was found folded this preacher's Bible. It doesn't say much about your line of the family, but you are welcome to a copy of it nonetheless. You seem to know a great deal more about the McCLURKINs and KIRKPATRICKs than I have been able to uncover in the past year. Wo! uld you care to swap information on these families? I am particularly interested in copies of birth/death/marriage certificates and photographs, but anything would be helpful. Thanks for ANY assistance you can give. It is greatly appreciated.

I am looking for information regarding descendants of Elizabeth MCELROY and John JOHNSON who married in Perry County on September 22, 1835. Elizabeth was the daughter of Frances REED and Michael MCELROY. I have no information about her husband. Known children of Elizabeth MCELROY and John JOHNSON were Frances who according to her mother's estate records was married to J. DOLBINS/DOLLINS/DOBBINS (I could not be sure of the name), Sarah J. Johnson, and there may have been a son named Daniel Johnson. I believe that Frances and Sarah were in Choctaw County in 1873 when Frances MCELROY'S estate was settled. Frances REED was the daughter of Nathan REED who came to Perry County around 1818. I am a descendant Frances and Michael MCELROY's son Nathan Reed MCELROY. Lyn Lucas
I recently sent for will and probate records and was very pleased with the response and the copies I received. The address is Perry County Probate Office, P.O. Box 478, Marion, AL 36756. One of the wills I had a page and book number from an index I found at my local library. I sent a letter with as many details as I had and enclosed a self addressed stamped postcard for them to let me know the fee. When I received the postcard, I dropped a check in the mail and got the records quickly. I think the fee was $1 per page. I can not put my hands on the phone number, but you could try directory assistance at 1-334-555-1212. Ingrid, our connection to the Barron family came in 1885 in Simpson Co, MS when Penelope Harriet Johnson (sister of my grandfather) married Nelson J. Barron. Knowing that my Johnson family had origins in Perry Co, AL, made me wonder if his Barron family did also, but I have nothing verifiable before the wedding date of March 6, 1885 to connect the two families, just circumstantial. With the Barron and Johnson families living in such close proximity to one another in Perry Co, AL, I suspect previous links, whether kith or kin, I do not know. Who were the descendants of John, William and Thomas Barron and where did they go after Perry/Hale ? I am especially interested in any who came to South Mississippi.
