The Music/k family originated from NC/SC.....so I am sure what you seen would have been part of this family...the only thing is that MUSICK is of German origin...not NA....so I am trying to confirm/deny that RANSOM A. MUSIC/K was or wasn't a birth son to Austin Musick...My thoughts are that Austin may have adopted him....or Austin may have had children with NA women.... I am looking on ancestry.com and rootsweb...to no avail for R.A. Music/k When they had the change over, it is harder now to find any body in the census....that were there before.... Thanks...and if any of you in Perry CO AL research comes across any Music/k information, keep me in mind. :) [email protected] Janice ----- Original Message ----- From: "Helen Allen" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, November 23, 2002 11:02 AM Subject: Re: [ALPERRY] Census lookup R.A. I believe I saw a man by the name of Musick referenced in a land deed in Laurens County, SC. Might be of the same family. The date would have been about 1800-1825 if I am recalling correctly. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Janice Hancock" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, November 23, 2002 10:29 AM Subject: Re: [ALPERRY] Census lookup R.A. Thank you...why I ask about the race is that my mother told me he was N.A. and I am trying to establish that fact and also if he was a son of AUSTIN MUSIC.....that was on the Blount or Chambers Co AL census listed as a son... I do know by corresponding with distant relatives, they all say about the same thing...R.A. Music and his family "elected" to list their race as white... Thanks again. The marriage of George Autry to Mary Ann Price 1/22/1826 is recorded in the Alabama State Archives but not in Perry County. In 1868 Washington Dobbins transferred "from Brush Creek" to the Marion Methodist Episcopal Church South, Marion, Perry County, Alabama." And Kizziah Dobbins is listed after Washingon Dobbins with the note "d 1869" SOURCE: Marion Church Register 1860-1888. Methodist Episcopal Church, South. Register of Members. Abstracted from the Alabama Church Records Held by the Alabama Department of Archives & History My question is what is the denomination of this named church? I am assuming "Brush Creek" referrs to a church and not just the district at the time. Also, were there other churches in the Brush Creek area? Charlotte Tucker Tuscaloosa, Alabama
Again, thank you so much for the information ! I have been looking for tax assessor records. The LDS website www.familysearch.org does not appear to have tax assessor records as early as 1848. Using specific land descriptions I have researched the tax record books from 1848 to 1860 at the Alabama Department of Archives and History, Montgomery. They are wonderful records if you need to locate an ancestor or simply just learn about their life at that time. There are a couple of personal property tax books in that time frame that are wonderful to read as well. (in that time frame). Thank you for your gift of, not only your time, but your information ! Charlotte Tucker
They are there. Do a place search under Perry, Alabama. Probate has its own category. Listed under that heading are: Estate Cases, 1840-1920; Orphans Court Records, 1821-59; Probate Records, 1859-1929; and will records, 1821-32. There is, however, a reference you may have missed. Try your local LDS Family History Center. They have many local county court papers (including probate) microfilmed and either available on site or you can order them short-term from Salt Lake for use at the FHC.
