Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/JU.2ADI/586 Message Board Post: I have written a book about Perry County, Alabama titled Perry Volunteers in the Mexican War, Perry County, Alabama, 1846-1847, First Regiment of Alabama Volunteers including the Mexican War Diary of Captain William G. Coleman. The book costs $17.60 and naturally there are shipping charges. It can be ordered online at www.heritagebooks.com or you can e-mail me and I will send you a mail order form. This books about Perry County patriots has never been explored before and fills a large gap in the history of Perry County, Alabama. In addition to being a good story, it is a good source of information for historians and genealogists. Captain Coleman's diary has not been published until now and it sheds new, heretofore hidden, information about people from Perry County. Contact me if you have questions or comments. J. Nixon. I have been to the Fellowship Cemetery near Marion and have seen the headstones for John Boyd and Chellie Nixon Boyd. Her tombstone states that she is John Boyd's second wife. Is Nixon her maiden name? where does the Mixon Come in? Could she have been Chellie Mixon Nixon? Could she have been married to a Nixon first? On my father's paternal side, I have a Chellie Nixon who married Joseph P. Walton. Her grandchildren talked about their grandma Boyd. This was all in the same general geographic location. I am intrigued trying to sort it all out. Can you help? E-mail: [email protected]

Excuse me---I don't understand your question....but yes N.A. is Native American...but on some of the old census they could have been listed as 'person of color' among other things..not just the African American people were considered colored... The document states that he served a second term in the war for his brother Signar. I am attempting to find a connection between this family and the John S.Edmonds in the 1850 census of Perry Co, Alabama

Linda, I am especially interested in the Colburn family of Perry County. Barbara/Barbary Colburn was the first wife of my great-grandfather, Michael Sylvester Eubanks. They were married in Marion in 1830; she was the daughter of Henry and Catherine Colburn/Coleburn. Do any of your grandmother's letters refer to persons of that time period? Or do you have information about this line? I am searching for information about Barbara's son Philip. You have a real treasure trove in those letters! I know you will enjoy reading them. My grandmother, Mamie Matheny Colburn , was the stepdaughter of Giles Lamar Colburn. She also married a Colburn, Thomas Wesley Colburn. In fact, I have just discovered numerous old letters, some dating back as far as 1900. She died about 8 1/2 years ago. Her daughter, Vera Colburn Marcum, my mother passed away just a few weeks ago and that is how I came in possession of these old letters. I haven't made a dent in the stack yet, but I can't wait to read them all. The majority of them was letters to my grandmother when she lived at Heiberger. If you can e-mail me and tell me some things that may be of interest, I will scan the letters more closely. Linda

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/JU.2ADI/90.1.1 Message Board Post: I have been searching the Autrey line for several years and will share my information with you. I have Cornelius Autrey born about 1720, possibly in Ireland, and died in the late 1770s in Edgecomb County, NC. Cornelius first appeared in records in 1746 and by 1756 he was a well established planter and the one for whom Autry Creek was named. His children scattered to GA, AL, TN and one remained in Edgecomb County. The oldest child of Cornelius was Absalom (who retained the "e" in Autrey). Absolom was born about 1740 and died in 1827 in St.Clair county. He was a Tory officer and had eight children, all born in NC, but they all migrated to GA, AL, SC andd TN. The second child was John Autry, b. abt 1741, d. 1778. He fathered twelve children by Elizabeth Ann. He was killed Feb. 2, 1778 by Creek Indians at Skull Shoals, GA.. A record of this family may be found in Mahan Blair Autry's book, The Family and Decendants of Captain John Autry. James Autry was the third child. ! William was the fourth. Cornelius was the fifth, etc. This Cornelius is often confused with his father and is falsely credited to be the father of all NC Autrys. The original progenitor of the NC Autrys was Cornelius of Edgecomb county. The children (continued) were Theophilus, Micajah of Alamo fame, Drury, Isam, Martha and Sarah. Let me know of any information that you need.
