    1. [ALPERRY] Kay Family
    2. janemc
    3. I am looking for information on the Kay family in 1870 time period in Perry Co. Alabama. I found my GGG Grandmother, Elizabeth Kay, age 45 living in Perry Co. Alabama with two of her daughters, Martha, age 14 born in Alabama and Lucy A. Kay age 5 born in Alabama. She was living next door to my other GGG Grandparents, Joseph Early Little and Salina Dodson Little. Evidently, Elizabeth must have died in the early to middle 1870's because the Little's took the Kay children in to raise and about the middle 1870's they moved to Mississippi. The father of these children was Larkin Kay and he was born about 1808-1810 in Abbeville or Anderson Co. South Carolina. He must have died before 1870 but I don't know where he died. I think they were in Talledega Co. Alabama in the 1860 census listed with their initials. There were four children listed there at that time. They would be Mary E. Kay born abt. 1852 in Alabama; Martha M. Kay born abt. 1853 in Alabama; two sons, W.L.Kay born abt. 1854 and R.E. Kay born abt. 1852, possibly the twin to Mary Kay. Then we know that there was a son, Elijah Kay born in 1861 somewhere in Alabama and my GG Grandmother, Emma Malissa Kay was born in Aug. of 1862 possibly in Tuscaloosa, Alabama according to my Great Grandmother's Bible. Then the last child was born, Lucy Kay on Sept. 3, 1865. I know that Larkin Kay was still alive in Jan. of 1865 but don't know where these children were born or when or where Larkin Kay died. I don't know if he died in Perry Co. or before they moved there. I need to see if there is any record of his death or a will or anything that can be traced back to this family in Perry Co. I don't know where Mary Kay and the boys, W.L. and R.E. Kay and Emma and Elijah were in that 1870 census. I may have found Elijah in Bibb county, age 8 living with a Griffin family but don't know if it is the same Elijah or not. I have not been able to find Mary or Emma in 1870 census anywhere. I sure would appreciate any help that anyone could give me. Thanks, Jane Little McEndree [email protected]

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/JU.2ADI/617 Message Board Post: Looking for info on these people from Perry County. Willie James Lewis, Jake Lewis, Westley Lewis. Juliette Lewis was in household with Dock and Lucy (Moore maiden name, I believe) Jones in Bessemer in 1930 listed as granddaughter. Willie James Lewis is the father of Juliette, Hattie, Mary, and Willie James Jr. Mother of these children unknown. Believe the other children stayed in Perry County with Willie James' mother (unknown). Hattie was my grandmother died in 1950 never knew her. Hattie married Ike Underwood. Ike was the son of George Underwood and Sarah (m. Tanner) Underwood. His other siblings were Sarah Ann, Percy, Ida, and Princess. Never knew anything about Percy, Ida, and Princess. Have located several Princess' but don't know if she married or not. Sarah Ann (Underwood)Tanner (and this seemed strange to me, but...) married Kenny Tanner. Their children were James, Ludie, Kenny Jr. and Louisa. Was told all are deceased, but that Louisa married a Cook. Percy married Janie, and had a son Eugene who was 11 in 1930. Any info on these related families is appreciated, especially any obituaries, marriage indexes, colored school records in Gadsden, Perry County, Bessmer and cemeteries were they may be buried and anything else. I will be visiting Gadsden and Perry Counties in June, and just trying to be as prepared as possible. I really would like to find out my greatgrandmother's name, Thanks, Ginger Underwood
