    1. [ALMORGAN] Re: How important are land deeds in your search?
    2. There have been several questions concerning land deeds. Many times a book has been published for land deeds. But the book does not always give you all the info on the deed but it would give you an idea as to what and how much property your ancestor owned or sold and the dates. You would need to decide if there were several entries what might give you the best clues..such as the last entry. Some mentioned metes and bounds and trees etc in the old colonial deeds. Check out Deed Mapper http://www.ultranet.com/~deeds/index.shtml It is a little expensive BUT for what all it does it is like AniMap well worth the money. Your Court Clerk or Register of Deeds in the county courthouse usually has the land deeds. BLM (Bureau of Land Management) http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/ has several states land records online. Also the Library of Virginia Electronic Card Indexes also has the original land documents online also http://198.17.62.51/collections/index.html And of course there is Federal Land Records for AR which give you the legals...BLM allows you to view and print the orginal document. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ar/fedland.htm Of course most of these are the original land patents or grants so your anscetors may very well have other land deeds on file in the county you are searching. It would be nice if all states and deeds were online. Kathy
