Dear List, This is what I have found out since my first posting a few days ago. I obtained this info from Larry Johnson's webpage (http://home.flash.net/~johnsonl/devault.htm). He went to Morgan Co. and did some research there. I hope to get to my FHC on Friday and find out what they have on hand for Morgan Co. Please let me know if the following is familar to anyone. David DEVAULT m. #1 Susanna GUEST on 19 Mar 1800 in Grainger Co, TN (I know my FHC has the 1810 Grainger Co Census--yes, it exists, even though the rest of E. TN was lost). They have a bunch of kids. Then it appears that Susanna dies, because David remarries on 5 Sep 1816 in Wilson Co TN to Ann McCRORY. They have a few kids (my guess is only 2-3). Ann must have died too. Then David dies and Morgan County Orphan Court records begin on 2 Dec 1822 regarding 10 minors. Most of the kids go to Rev. William BYRD of Limestone Co, AL. Apparently some go to a William DEVAULT in Lawrence Co. Here are the kids IN MARRIAGE ORDER and who they married. (I did this only because I figure the older kids got married first). Elijah DEVAULT m. 14 Dec 1822 Morgan Co, AL to Polly ABELS John DEVAULT m. 25 Sep 1823 Morgan Co, AL to Frances PRIDDY Issac DEVAULT m. 2 Oct 1832 Morgan Co, AL to Rebecca HARLAN Matilda DEVAULT m. 19 Jul 1835 Morgan Co, AL to John M. CUMMINGS Rebecca DEVAULT m. 30 Mar 1837 Morgan Co, AL to William H. LITTLE Sarah DEVAULT (mine) m. 26 Mar 1840 Morgan Co, AL to Absalom RHODES Susan(nah) DEVAULT m. 28 Apr 1841 Morgan Co, AL to Moses LOONEY Kids I can't find a marriage for yet: Lydda/Lydia DEVAULT Lucinda DeVAULT Other misc./perplexing info I can't figure out: Irena DEVAULT m. 11 Dec 1832 Morgan Co, AL to Issac CARPENTER Polly / Mary DEVAULT m. license 7 Jan 1822 to Edward SUMMERFORD William DEVAULT m. Nancy AMONET 22 Dec 1818 Lawrence Co, AL. Nancy b. c. 1792 and dies 15 Apr 1845, age 53. William & Nancy take in some of the kids. I'm guessing that William may have been David's brother. Mary is not listed in the original kids (but maybe she wasn't a minor), but then there are orphan court notes from Edward C. Summerford re: his wife Mary. Is Polly a nickname for Mary? I have no clue who Irena is. It says most of the kids went to Rev. William Byrd. Later some went to Wm & Nancy DeVault, and I think some went to Elijah DeVAULT. If you check out the 1830 Morgan Co Census, Elijah has extra people living with him (males: 2 under 5, 3 are 20-30! ; females: 1 under 5, 1 was 5-10, 1 was 15-20 and 1 was 20-30). I'm guessing Issac & Susan(nah) are living with him; I can't figure out the extra male). Susan(nah) lived with Wm. Byrd in 1823, 24, and part of 25 (court records). In 1832, Nancy DEVAULT (wife of Wm) is the guardian of Lucinda, Rebecca, Sarah & Elizabeth. Her 1830 vs. 1840 sort of supports this. I think Sarah (mine) was the youngest or 2nd youngest. Her tombstone reads that she was b. 13 Dec 1822, but I think she was probably b. in 1821. Any ideas? Thanks, Cheri Mello
