Can someone answer the following questions? 1. If someone supposedly died, his body never found and his family never heard from him again, what would happen to that body if and when it was found? Where would it be buried? Wouldn't it be reported to the legal authorities? My great grandfather supposedly was on his way home from work in 1874 (he had been summoned that his wife was in labor) and that was the last the family ever knew about him. This happened either in Morgan or Lawrence Co, AL. News traveled fast back then since everyone probably knew everyone and the areas surrounding the family home where they worked, shoped and visited was probably not very large. Is it logical that the discovery of an unidentified body would not be news all over the county? Is it logical that a body would not be found if the family was waiting for him to come home; wouldn't they most likely put out a search party when he didn't arrive? If found at some point, would that body be buried in a potter's field or county cemetery as unidentified? 2. On the KY web site there is something called "KY FOOTSTEPS" which appears to be tid bits taken from old newspapers of the times. It is very informative regarding the people of KY...who visited who, who was arrested, who got married, etc. Does Morgan or Lawrence County have such a site on line or somewhere that this type of data can be viewed? 3. Finally, if a person was indentured to learn a trade, where could I find such records? As you can tell, I've never been able to find my g grandfather because he was presumed killed on his way home from work and his body never found. I've tried just about everything I can think of to learn more about him, but no success. I do not know who his parents were or where he was born except it was supposedly somewhere in GA. The only link I've found of him is his marriage in Lawrence Co and I've exhausted every avenue that I can regarding that document. I hate to think that perhaps he just walked away from his family as he had only been married 4 years and his only child was born on the day he was said to have died. But I have to wonder. Any suggestions, ideas, etc? This is driving me crazy! Thanks, Paula
