Roberts married Tilman Powell, Dec. 31, 1861 in Winston Co. Alabama, by A.W. Powell, Justice of the Peace. Children living in 1898 were: "Margaret W. M. Powell born . . (date not stated), William M. Powell, born . . .(date not stated), Benjamin L. Powell born Jany. 8' 1868." Affidavit of William A. Nesmith, 2dn day September 1908, stated that Tilman's first wife was Martha J. Roberts and that his second wife was Martha J. Moore, a neighbor. Mr. Nesmith was a comrade with Tilman during War Between the States.
