    1. [ALMORGAN] Who Shot Riley Newton Willis 1851-1860??
    2. Hi List, I am in need of help to find where and who shot my gggrandfather Riley Newton Willis (his nickname may have been "Nudie" or "Nute") between the years 1851-1860. He was shot while turkey hunting somewhere in one of these counties, Winston, Morgan, Walker, the story passed down was he was shot around the area of Natural Bridge, Winston County, AL. It could have happened in any county in north Alabama. If anyone has heard of this story passed down in your family please let me know. I have searched high and low trying to find where he died at. The last known place I have him living was in Morgan County, AL 1849. His wife, Melinda Jane Rutledge, came to Walker County, AL in 1860 to the Wolf Creek area near the Fayette County Line. She was the daughter of David and Mary (Bullard) Rutledge of Morgan County, AL. Riley and Melinda had five children that I know of: Angeline b.1844 (never married) Charlotte b.1845 married Neely Tidwell William J. b.1847 died at the age 19 Riley Newton, b.1849 married Martha Ann Lawrence Mathey/Mathew David b.1851. married Ollie Margaret Tidwell If anyone ever heard or read about the hunting accident or anthing about this family please let me know. I sure could use the help on this brick wall! Thanks Glenda Willis Burgess

Right now I do not have time as I am very behind on answering email and I need to get all my counties updated. I do have a volunteer to do the 1860 but if anyone would like to help her please contact me and I will put you in touch with her so you can work to gether on what pages each of you will work. Or if anyone wishes to go further to 1870, 1880.... let me know and I will make note of it. Thank you & good luck in your search! 2. Cynthia E. Chandler
    3. My thank to Kathy and those who have done such a fine job with the Morgan Co. website. Transcribing census info is very time consuming and exhausting. Exhausting in that one is trying to read someone elses handwriting which is hard on the eyes and the ones mine. Anyone who has transcribed knows what I am talking about. These transcriptions are a great undertaking. It is a wonderful asset to the website and to thoses of us that use them. Much nicer for all of us than scanning the documents and then each of us having to decipher the handwriting. Again, my thanks for having a great website and for all you hard work updating and maintaining it. Cynthia Chandler East Peoria, IL Researching: Chambers, Lynn, and Holmes of Morgan Co.

    3. Kathy, I should send this directly to you, not the list, but wanted everyone to know my sentiments on the subject: Nothing to say except, BRAVO. I for one have had NO problem with the pages and I for one didn't say Thank You. I am sorry for that, and I certainly appreciate ALL of your hard work and dedication. Thank You and I sincerely hope you will soon be able to get some much needed rest and It was a wonderful gift to see the census on line after such a long wait. Many of us don't realise how much work what you do takes, For this new Year, I am going to resolve to be more appreciative and try and remember to show it. God Bless you and Thanks Again for all you do. Pam Harbison

    1. [ALMORGAN] Please accept my apology
    2. I want to apologize for "sounding off" and for breaking one of my biggest peeves and something I would not tollerate - flaming. I was not directing my email at any one person. In fact couldn't tell you who sent emails of "complaint" yesterday as I deleted them as I read them. I don't normally "get on a roll" unless I am defending someone else. But I guess too many hours at the computer clouded my mental thoughts. I totally ignored the email I got first thing Christmas morning from a lady criticizing and telling me how I should run the Morgan Co website and this is what I should have done yesterday instead of saying anything. So please accept my apology and I will try to not let myself get so worn down I lose my professionalism. If anyone still has problems getting census 1 loading please let me know I may still need to down size it for those with slower running computers. I hope to have the remainder of the census done by late tonight or sometime Monday... Thank you and good luck in your search! Kathy

It works fine for me. But I know what all of your problems are. The data is in an HTML table. As there's a lot of it, it takes a little while to load. But the only drawback of using tables is that *none* of the data appears until *all* of the data in the table is loaded. And with a table as big as this, it certainly could seem that nothing was coming through. Joseph Thomas Richardson

    1. [ALMORGAN] Morgan Co., AL 1850 census NOW IT'S MY TURN
    2. I won't even go into the rules of the mailing list Re: "If you have a problem contact me not the list"...were broken. But in my initial email I DID tell you I would be making some adjustments over the next few days. Had you emailed me privately I would and could have told you what you needed to do to access the pages. I also told you there would be heavy traffic on USGenWeb. I wish I had gotten as many volunteers to work the census so they could be posted as there has been complaints thru the list today. But as it was I got only one volunteer - which is the same number to say thank you - to help me with the 1850 census and I truly appreciate her taking and giving of her time!! Yes I am just a little put out and Yes I am just a little tired. Have you ever looked to see what time of the night or rather should I say mornings I get things uploaded? Where were you at at 4 am Christmas morning? I can tell you exactly where I was - still at my computer not giving up hopes of getting this project finished so it would be there waiting for you. But that isn't the only time I spent to wee hours trying to get the project done. Have you looked to see what time I got the changes to the first 2 pages uploaded tonight? Do you know what problems this census has caused?? And I figure I will get flack again. If you get the Morgan Memories go back abt a year ago and read the statement from Morgan Co where several of the members - who were innocent to it all - were threatened with a lawsuit because the census sent to me to post was copyrighted by someone else. As soon as I was notified by the person and that I would also be named in the lawsuit I immediately yanked it from the site and never mentioned a word to any of you why. Because of the person who sent it to me - which to this day and to my knowledge has never came forth and admitted it nor apologized for all the problems - Morgan Co Genealogical Society, Inc no longer can print that book for resale. Thus they will be sent a copy of the work to do with what they wish. I begged one of my suppliers to put the census on cd - which finally happened but with 26,000 miles within 5 months I was unable to get the project worked until now during my "free" time. Now that I have gotten a few things off my chest - pages 3 and 4 are still the same and you may have problems loading. But I am in the process of making the changes as I did to pages 1 & 2 which are now page 1. Once I get this project finished I will begin updating all the pages to all my counties AND then I am going to work on my own research which I haven't gotten to do in almost 2 years! But now I am going to go to bed so I can get back to work on this project tomorrow..... Thank you and I hope you have a good day! Kathy
