I sure hate bothering you all AGAIN. But then I was in the process of updating counties when this came thru...guess there's no rest for the wicked<GR> I thought abt this all morning and decided you should not be left in the dark. I want your opinions on the matter but please send them directly to me...I will make a webpage where all views can be seen. This way if you are interested you know what is being said, if not then you will not be bothered on the mail list. RootsWeb has merged with MyFamily.com - I will include the email that came thru so you know what was said. I am keeping close watch on views of other listowners...I will not voice my opinion at this time as I would not want to sway an opinion in either direction. Please email me at HudsonK@aol.com Thank you Kathy, Listowner <<<Good News, Bad News, Good News: RootsWeb and MyFamily.com Merger Good news: You, our contributors, with your financial support, have helped create at RootsWeb one of the largest and most popular sites on the Internet. In May, we had over 149 million page views (according to Nielsen NetRatings combined home and work statistics), sent over 155 million e-mails, and handled over two million downloads of files from the various archives hosted at RootsWeb. Everyone, take a bow! This is an incredible community of genealogists, and the advances we're all making in our research due to the sharing that occurs here is unprecedented. Bad news: The more popular RootsWeb becomes, the more costly it is to simply stay alive and online. Even with your generous support, expenses continue to exceed revenue. We ran up a truly scary loss last year. Without outside help, it's not clear how long we'd be able to go on like this. Good news: MyFamily.com (you may know them better as Ancestry.com) recognizes the importance of the genealogical community that has grown here at RootsWeb, and wants that community to continue to thrive. They're excited to provide the financial stability we need to ensure RootsWeb will be around for years to come. Brian and I are pleased by Ancestry.com's coming involvement with RootsWeb. Now we can all focus on helping each other on the mailing lists and message boards, uploading our GEDCOMs, and building Web pages to share our research. More good news: No one is going to charge you to use RootsWeb. You'll still find RootsWeb at www.RootsWeb.com. Everything you're used to using will still be here: the 19,000 mailing lists, the hundreds of millions of names in free genealogy databases, the interactive learning guides, the weekly RootsWeb Review and Missing Links, the numerous tools for tracing your family history, the tens of thousands of message boards, the thousands of independently authored web sites. RootsWeb will still support worthy genealogy projects and societies, such as the USGenWeb Project (www.USGenWeb.org), the Immigrant Ships Transcribers Guild (ISTG.rootsweb.com) and the FreeBMD Project (FreeBMD.rootsweb.com), and other groups that provide free genealogical resources. You will of course still get all of services and benefits we promised you, such as mailing lists and access to PML, the feature that scans all our mailing lists and message boards for the surnames you specify. And don't worry, you won't be charged to access RootsWeb. No one will put your data on CD without your permission. Our Privacy Policy (http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/pledge.html) and our Acceptable User Policy (http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/aup.html) are unchanged. Other promises made over the years will continue to be honored. You'll still deal with the same RootsWeb volunteers and employees. In fact, most users won't notice any changes, except exciting new tools, more content, and better genealogical resources. If you would like more information, please check out our official press release at http://www.ancestry.com/home/celebrate/rootsrelease.htm >>>
I want to thank all of you for your thoughts of concern. My husband did get good news. The stint was not completely closed so next Wed. they will go in and put in another stint to help support this one to remain open. You all have no idea how much I appreciate my county and surname mailing lists. I never have any problems from you and give me great pleasure reading your emails. I will try to get as much done on updating counties before next Wed. Thank you!! Kathy, listowner
this week. My husband will be going in the hospital Tues. to see if another stent can be used or if they will have to do a bypass. So I need you to be on your best behavior for me. Please keep personal comments private and not on the list. Please keep to genealogy so there is no flaming. You have been great lists so keep up the good work. If you have not subscribed to the mailing list...please do so as your emails will only bounce to me rather than going to the list. To subscribe send your email to ALMORGAN-L-request@rootsweb.com (if you want the digest mode replace the L with a D - if you are on my other mailing list change ALMORGAN to the proper name of the list such as ARHOWARD - ARSEVIER - AR NEWTON - AFHA - STOKES - TOLLETT) And type in your subject line: subscribe I you want to unsubscribe type: unsubscribe To send your queries to the list mail them to ALMORGAN-L@rootsweb.com (this address is used whether you are on the mail mode or the digest mode - again chg the proper name if you are not on the Morgan Co AL mailing list) As far as the websites....as soon as all this is over I will be updating the counties. I have several large files that have been submitted so it will take me a bit on some of the counties. I do appreciate those that have given this information. I appreciate your understanding, Kathy
Charlotte, I found the marriage of Peter McDowell to Elizabeth Coil on Sept. 2, 1819, but the record indicated the marriage was in Madison county, AL Nothing about the JP or who was security. :( Adrian
Jeremiah H. Cloud married Sarah/Sally in Morgan County in 1820 and is listed as Justice of the Peace of "Decatur." The context would suggest "Decatur County", but geography suggest that it might have been the community that became the City of Decatur. Anyone have ideas about that? Descendants of this Cloud and members of all other Cloud families who live in the Tessessee Valley have a rare opportunity this July 14-16 to attend the annual meeting of the Cloud Family Association without making a long trip. It's in Huntsville this year, the first of its 23 annual meeting to be held in Alabama. If you have any Cloud ancestry or any other reason for interest in Cloud history, see http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~cloud/2000/bu000605.htm If you live elsewhere and are interested in attending, please note that room reservations must be made directly with the Huntsville Hilton (not Hilton's 800 number) to get the special $65 room rate. I'm new at this. I'm researching a John Young who was born in Virginis in 1864; he married a Mary Adam maybe in Limestone county, Alabama. They had seven children; only five that I know of. The 1920 census have their son's name spelled Melville, but his death certificate has his name spelled Mell Young. He had two children, name John and melville Young. He was also married to a Novella lile. Lillie Young Lyle (Husband- Exum Lile), Velma Young Baker (Husband- Willie Baker), Ida Young Baker and Grealla Young. I've heard that they are buried in Trinity, Alabama on Trinity mountain (Grange Hall). If anyone comes across these names please let me know. Thanks!!
Edna, Thanks. I have my Ransoms pretty far back (possibly). I know that Hugh Ransom was the son of James M. Ransom, who married Amy Osborne (Wilks) in 1840 in Morgan Co, AL. He was born in 1817, TN. We think he was the son of Joseph Ransom, who was in the 1820 census of Franklin Co, TN; and we think he was the son of Reuben Ransom b.1753, VA and Sally Leeman b.abt 1758. This connection of James M. Ransom to Joseph is not proven. Dan
The local library has a set of marriage books for Alabama. I will look up your request and any others I receive. I cannot remember, though, if the JP and security are given. But I will look. Why was there "security"? Can someone explain what purpose that served? Thanks! So, please send your requests. Just give me a week or two! Hi List, Below I have put the Bell families that was in Morgan County, AL 1830- 1870.Would love to hear from anyone who has any information of these Bells in their line. I believe my James B Bell b. 1808, on the 1850 census of Winston County, AL has him born in NC, on the 1860 census has him born in TN. I believe him to be the son of John Bell living next door to Robert Lowrimore, since he married Robert's daughter Elizabeth on Feb. 14, 1832. James and Elizabeth are living next door to the same John Bell in 1840. John Bell on page 11 was born 1760-1770 and John Bell on page 54 was born 1780-1790 could this be father and son? Anyone know of John Bell and John Bell,Jr in this age range? The E. Bell b. 1760-1770 I believe to be Elisha Bell, because he was one of the first to get land grants in Morgan and Madison County, AL. Is Elisha Bell a brother to John Bell, if so where did they come from? Sure would like to hear from anyone on these Bells. Hello All, I am sending the following excerpt from a posting to the Bertie List as I thought it may be of interest to others researching within this time period in the Colonies. Kathy/MI - ---------------------------------- > <<Page 5: BELL, Mary, 12 Sep 1660; 13 Feb 1660 (which is impossible). Are you talking about the Mormons as in Latter Day Saints? If so, I would question that web site as I have always understood that the Mormons were founded in the US by Joseph Smith. If I am wrong, please ignore this confused, muddled soul! :) Adrian At 10:35 AM 06/10/2000 -0500, Robert L. As an American the constitution gives me the freedom of speech, as a human being I should consider others feelings before speaking, as a listowner I cannot take sides...but I do need to ask that we keep our "confrontations" between individuals. I am not going to be with the list continually the next few days so keep me proud of the list that I brag on all the time. My husband has started having heart problems again so I will be in and out the next couple of days..so if you do need something I will check my email as time allows me. I am scheduled to take Genealogy Shoppe to St Louis this coming weekend but the beginning of the week will tell if I can make the trip. If you plan to be there..hopefully I will get to put faces to emails. Thank you! Kathy
I, for one. don`t appreciate the remarks about MORMONS on this genealogy List. Email me personally and I`ll tell you what I really think of your ignorant comments. Sue Drake in Decatur
