    1. [ALMORGAN] Epidemic
    2. Tom and Judy
    3. Thanks to all of you for your responses to my query about the Yellow Fever epidemic. We often forget that some of these terrible diseases wiped out entire families - leaving us to wonder what happened to them. I am looking for Joseph and Cinderilla (Riller) Hunter. They are listed on the 1860 and 1870 census in Decatur. He was a blacksmith. They are listed with two sons - Joseph and William. By 1880 they are gone and James has moved to AR with his wife's family. Didn't the oldest son USUALLY stayed close to his parents? Why did he leave? Did they both die? James' wife was Catherine Pearson. We have also lost some of her family but we are not sure where they were. Thanks again for all the help. Judy Woods

    1. [ALMORGAN] WOODALLS, WILSONS, CROSBYS AND VESTS IN AL IN 1800'S
    2. Tom Dunklin
    3. I'm a new subscriber to the list and hope that someone can help me locate information regarding my great grandfather's parents and siblings. I would love to finally find a Wilson home for my Abraham/Abram Wilson. Abram is first found on the 1870 Morgan County census. He is shown as 18 yrs old, a farmer, born in GA and living in the home of a Mary Woodall. She is shown as age 33, keeping house and born in SC. I do not know if she was a Woodall by birth or if she was a Woodall by marriage. I have never been able to find any information on her or her family. I have a copy of Abram's marriage license to Sarah Jane Nesmith, d/o Robert Martin Nesmith and Sarah M. Woodall Nesmith, of Morgan Co. They married in Lawrence County Oct 6, 1870. I also have a copy of a document addressed to the probate judge of Lawrence County, giving permission for Abram to marry. Evidently 18 was too young to marry in AL at that time. I had hope to find the parents of Abram on this letter but the signatures appear to be H. H. Crosby and S. E. Crosby. This letter is very faint and barely readable so the name may be something similar to Crosby. I don't know if one of these people could have been his mother who had remarried, a sister or brother, or even legal guardians. However, I find on that same census, a Sarah Crosby living next door to Abe and Mary Woodall. It shows her to be 21 years of age, BLIND, and apparently living alone with an infant, Jas. W., age 9/12 and born in AL. No other adult is shown in the home. I don't know if she was a widow of a confederate Crosby soldier, if the husband had died in other circumstances or if he had left the home. I guess she possibly could have been unmarried. I've wondered if the initial W. in her child's name might stand for Woodall and if she herself might have been a Woodall. The possibilities are endless. The family story is that in March of 1874, Abram was out working and was called home to be with Sarah Jane as she was in labor with their first child. He never made it home and his body was never found. No one in my family has ever known what really happened and we never knew who Abram's parents or siblings were. As far as I know, my grandfather never mentioned his father's family; he may not have known about them. We think either Abe's parents or his ancestors were originally from either NC or SC, then moved to GA and then, Abe at least, moved on to AL. We have searched high and low for any information on his parents or siblings and found nothing. If anyone can make a connection to this family, please contact me. Abram really needs a home.

    1. [ALMORGAN] Listowner update
    2. I want you all to be the first to know...the URL's for my counties have changed. So you will need to update your bookmarks for the website's. I did not abandon you...I have been working downloading files I had taken out of my computer and uploading all the files to the new URL And with all the hoorah going on I just thought I had a right to complain at 500 emails a day...the last few days it has jumped to abt 1500 a day and I went to my uncles funeral this afternoon...so sorry I have not gotten back to you. Well I really don't have much to tell you, other than I did receive an email that USGenWeb Project is not part of the transaction because it has remained separate from RootsWeb. Most of you know I own Genealogy Shoppe...I have transferred all the files to my domain...which I had thought of doing several months ago...I no longer have to worry with ANYONE having access to my passwords etc. As long as I maintain the counties they will remain here and you nor I will have the worry of our hard work being put on a "pay-per-view" or sold to anyone for profit. Now it is possible that MyFamily.com had already gone in to the files and downloaded them BUT any new updates will be on my domain and the only way the info can be retrieved is if you share it with another website, person or it is "stolen" from the site. And it does not mean it isn't possible they retrieved the info to start a new "project" with the "old" info. I have done all I can do at this point to protect your and my hard work and I have appreciated all you have done. We are still with USGenWeb Project so you will be able to connect there also...we have just changed domains. Right now we are without a query system and guestbook...if any of you know of a good guest book please let me know. Right now I have it posted where you mail the queries and comments directly to me. I do apologize in my haste I did lose Morgan Co and Howard Cos new posted queries. So please feel free to mail them to me..However I would appreciate if you would hold off a bit for me to get the other info updated. I have not had time to ck all the links and make sure there were good uploads...so if you find either please let me know. Right now I am not going to concern myself with the mailing list...the websites need first attention. NOW the new urls: Morgan Co., AL <A HREF="http://www.genealogyshoppe.com/almorgan/index.htm">GE NEALOGY: MORGAN COUNTY, ALABAMA</A> http://www.genealogyshoppe.com/almorgan/index.htm Howard Co., AR <A HREF="http://www.genealogyshoppe.com/arhoward/index.htm">GE NEALOGY: HOWARD COUNTY, ARKANSAS</A> http://www.genealogyshoppe.com/arhoward/index.htm Sevier Co., AR <A HREF="http://www.genealogyshoppe.com/arsevier/index.htm">GE NEALOGY: SEVIER COUNTY, ARKANSAS</A> http://www.genealogyshoppe.com/arsevier/index.htm Thank you for all you have done to make your website a success!!! 3. Good news, I did find S.L.Cook (with wife Mollie) and A.C.Mann and wife Bessie in the Old Decatur Cemetery. Old stones removed, they have a big stone they share. Section 21 Lot 18...says Mann on one side (and nothing else) and it says Cook on the other (nothing else). With no dates on it, I can't find the obituaries yet. Samuel Cook died probably at the end of 1924. A Bessie Mann in the SSDeath Index shows died July 1976. Can anyone tell me who has the old records for the cemetery, (the city?). Also found them in the Morgan County Census 1920 (all alive). Seems A.C. Mann was proprietor of a shop, maybe butcher shop/grocery store. Do you suppose some Morgan County History book would have a picture of it? I also wanted to thank all those that pointed me in the right direction. Juanita
