    3. Dear Edna, I cannot say what newspaper is the oldest in Morgan County but the oldest that I have been able to find is the Enquirer. See http://www.hartselleenquirer.com/history.html. Perhaps you can help me with a mixed Morgan County Marshall Count and Madison County problem involving the Thompson family. I am trying to find out what happened to Mary Alice (known as Alice) Key who married Thomas T. Thompson on 25 Mar 1874 at the residence of her father, W. Pleasant Key in Gandy's Cove, Morgan County, AL. Her mother died in 1874. According to Key researchers, W. Pleasant Key then moved to the New Hope area of Madison County, probably to live with or near Alice and Thomas. I am not at all sure that they lived in any one place. I find a T. T. Thompson listed in marriage records in Marshall County as the minister who performed several marriages in the Warrenton area. In one he was referred to as DM, C.L.?. Circ. The person who transcribed the record could not decipher it but perhaps it was trying to tell us that the Rev. Thompson was a circuit rider. Many preachers were in that time period. Is the Rev. Thompson one of your Thompsons? If so, do you know his religion and his regular church, if he had one? I would appreciate any information that you can give me. Barbara Finney

    2. Robert Ulrich
    3. Hi List, Couple of questions. First does anyone know when the earliest newspapers were printed in Morgan County. My Rogers-Thompson-Strain-Grantland family resided there from 1820 to around 1860. There were 5 members of the Rogers family who died on the same day, 12 April 1849. We don't know what happened. My gggrandmother Caroline Frances Thompson died in 1838 around the Somerville area. Have looked in the cemetery books and have not found her. Her parents were William Thompson and Henrietta Willliams. Related to Robert Thompson whose daughter was married into the Bibb family. Would love to find where the William Thompson's are buried. Have Bible records for both families that I would be happy to share. Any thoughts or assistance would be gratefully appreciated. Edna M. Rogers Ulrich P.O. 2. As long as the book is referenced as the source for the information and the reference lists the title, author, page and publication information, there should be no problem with copyright infringement. Kathy

    1. Re: [ALMORGAN] Re: ALERT on the 1850 & 1860 Census Lookup
    2. Pretty tacky to write a book and then not share it with the genealogy community. You can tell this person is not a Genealogist whoever they are, they are really money hungry. There are lots of ways to get this info so I think we should forget the books were ever written and never buy another one. Morgan County Genealogy Society is the same way with their Heritage Book, they will let you read it but you can't copy anything in it. If you find something you need they will sell you a book. 1. [ALMORGAN] JOHNSON---MORGAN CO---1820-1850
    2. Seeking any information on John JOHNSON, b 1780-90 prob TN. Parents of John are unk. John m twice: first wife unk: m. 2nd to Lovie Pullen @1820. From a set of pre 1923 notes information is that father of John JOHNSON immigrated from England, was Rev War Vet from VA, after the war he moved to E TN, raised a large family of boys, lost his land in some sort of dispute & then "he and some of his boys moved to No AL where he shortly died." This move was possibly as early as 1820. I believe I have located John JOHNSON on 1840 Jackson Co AL census (pg. 56) but I may be in error on that. At any rate, he had a grist mill, lived on Sand Mountain, and ground "parched" corn for the Indians to take on their trip west. Marriage Record: Cannady JOHNSON (son of John) b. 1810, prob TN, m. 10 Mar 1832 Morgan Co AL to Lodicia Minerva Hankins. Marriage executed by Joseph W. Ryan, J.P. Pension Record: William JOHNSON (son of John) states he was b. 8 March 1823, Morgan Co AL. William m. Obedience Hatchet Clark 21 July 1845, Trenton, Dade Co GA. Death Certificate: Lodicia Frances JOHNSON (dau of Cannady) states she was b. 2 July 1844 Morgan Co AL. This family lived in No AL for about 30 years. They migrated to MO 1850. I have searched this line for many years. Would like to know if there are any JOHNSON Rev War Vets buried in Morgan County, location of grist mill of John JOHNSON, and basically just about anything else that could concern this family. I would fall over myself to make contact with others searching this line and exchange information. Thank you for your time. Judy Johnson Erickson
