The website for more information is: http://www.kytnresearch.com/gencruise/ If there are any of you planning to attend the FGS Conference this week please come by Genealogy Shoppe booths and say hello to me. If any of you need to contact me I will be checking the mailing lists every evening. Have a safe trip if you are attending. Hope all had an enjoyable weekend. Kathy
I believe Albany was the original name for Decatur. Then when Decatur began to expand, the Old Historic District remained Albany for a while and the rest of Decatur was Decatur. Someone correct me if I am wrong. You would need to contact Vital Statistics in Montgomery for a death certificate.

I got this information on the Morgan Co tax list..hope this helps your research..Thanks Marilyn! Kathy << Kathy, To the best of my research, Morgan Co. was not organized much before 1818. The only organized Co. before then was Madison Co. in north Al.There are tax records for Madison Co. for the years 1810-1815. All the rest of northern Al. was referred to as the Mississippi Territory. When Morgan Co was organized , the lower part of Madison co. was included, at least the river bend area. There may be tax records for the Mississippi Territory, but I have been unable to find any.I have relied on the AIS Census Report for Al. which does include Miss. Ter. and some tax listings . Although it is for 1819, It does go back for some individuals to 1721. The earliest census report I've found is for 1820, for Morgan Co. Best wishes ,Marilyn >>
Does anyone know how to get to the old Draper Cemeteries up at Talucah in Morgan Co? I found one, the Crowder Draper Cemetery. It's in a cow pasture. But I know there is another one and have never been able to find it. I tried to follow the directions in the Cemetery Book but still cannot seem to locate it. They don't make sense. Maybe things have changed in the 20 years since they were written down? It says go to Talucah Road from Hwy 36 and turn left. Go approx 2 1/2 miles to a gravel road and turn left. I have done this many times and there is no gravel road! What am I doing wrong?
I hope this is not inappropriate for the list, but I need to find someone in a hurry! I am looking for my second cousin, Don (Donnie) Andrew Sims. I need to get some family info from him and I haven't seen him since we were little. His mother was Virginia Johnson Sims and father was Willie Sims. I think he would be in his forties or early fifties. I believe he still lives in this area (North Alabama) but is not listed in the phone book. If anyone knows how to find him or any other info please email me at paulahurst@gateway.net or give me his phone number or have him call me at 256-355-2503 or 256-355-7711 Ext 223 at work. Thanks Paula Hurst
I am trying to locate burial information on my great, great grandmother & her son, my great grandfather, both buried at Falkville City Cemetery. Can someone point me in the right direction? According to the death certificate, filed March 20, 1926, the undertaker for Elizabeth S. Dodson Smith (Oct 7, 1841 - Feb 27, 1926) was H. M. Priest in Albany. Is Priest a person or a funeral home. . .and where is Albany? I can't locate a funeral home by this name. She died in Decatur & her address was given as 219 5th Ave. W., Decatur, AL. The physician's name appears to read Dr. G. Perry, Decatur. She is buried near her son, William A. Dodson (July 28, 1861 - June 11, 1922). On his death cert., filed June 11, 1922, his address is not listed, though I believe it was Falkville (the interstate eventually took his home). No undertaker was listed. The attending physician was J.B. Elliott, MD. I am hoping to find clues in the burial information that will help me identify other members of Elizabeth's family. Also, where do I write to see if a will exists for either of them? Any information/advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
