Thanks for all the help. I found George in the 1870 census. Definitely White. Had the same mo/year birthday. I assume that Munroe T. Smith , the enumerator just goofed when he copied his notes. I made an error in the following: the last named child was born March 1900 and was thus 2 months old. New related matter. There is a project to transcribe all census records and post them to US Gen Web. Many volunteers are needed. More like me to transcribe the data. Also needed are proof readers. Details available at http://www.rootsweb.com~census . If some will volunteer to proof my sheets, I will send the transcribed data along with the images I am using. For everyone's info, Ancestry.com is in the process of posting all US censuses that have been released. They have the complete 1790 census, most of 1900 and a good part of 1920. Unfortunately the 1920 is only through Marshall co at present. They have committed to have ALL U.S. Censuses available by mid summer. I have been asked to post what I have done. I am on the sixth page of e.d. 134 which is Somerville. There are 21 e.d.'s for Morgan Co for 1900. I can do about one sheet per day, Thus We need your help. Someone once told me that this book is not the book that the census taker carried around, house to house, but a copy of that list. If this is so, we know how we all make mistakes transcribing our notes. I took a college course on researching and that was one of the main rules.."Do the notes neatly and don't recopy them". Of course, we were supposed to carry a notebook with all the correct forms for our notes...most of us ended with spiral notebooks and we recopied our heads off! I am working on transcribing the 1900 census of Morgan Co., to be posted on the GENWEB site. I have run into an interesting problem and hope that a lister can help set me straight. Hi, I finally found my ancestors. I lost them around 1860 in Tennessee. They didn't show up in Tennesse again til 1900 in Shelby County (City of Memphis), TN. I always wondered where they went. Finally, I found a 1910 TN census record that stated A. J. Tennison was born in Alabama. How wonderful to find them when I used the 1880 soundex for Alabama!! I don't know how long they stayed in Alabama. I would love to learn more. Anyone have any ideas about my next steps in Morgan County, Alabama? I have this: 1880 Alabama Census (soundex) Vol 19 ED 273 Sheet 4 Line 24 Morgan Co. Decatur (city), Alabama A.J. I will be leaving in a couple hours for GenTech in Mesquite, TX. But I wanted you all to be the first to know since this will be my first conference and want you to know of the changes. I recently purchased Census View ( http://www.galstar.com/~censusvu/ ) The URL will stay the same but this next week changes will be made to the website with my address and phone number etc. I will soon be making new titles...but at this time will only put request of what anyone wants done on file. I hope to serve and give you the quality that Gary & Nancy have done in the past years. I will miss their company at the seminars but wish them well. I will continue with Genealogy Shoppe. If you get to attend GenTech please stop by and say hello. USGenWeb Project volunteers will have a booth. Please stop and visit with them too. Remember they are all volunteers and some are traveling a distance to attend...at their own expense. I hope to post all the new information that has been sent to me for the websites within the next couple of weeks. Good luck in your search! Kathy Stokes Hudson
