I'm still hoping for ANY evidence of the existence of John M. GILL in Monroe Co., AL. Am almost positive that this is the John Marshall who was baptized on 13 Sep 1806 in Fishing Creek Presbyterian Church in Chester Co., SC who was presented for baptism by John GILL who is shown "of Rb" in the church records. John M. married Margaret Clemenza WALLACE, dtr. of Jonathan WALLACE and Elizabeth DUNLAP. I don't know if that marriage took place in SC or AL but all of their children born between 1832 and 1848 are shown to be born in Monroe County, AL. They are: Dixon H. L., b 11 Jan 1832; Mary J., b 1837; Elizabeth Clemenza, b 1838; Lemar M., b 23 Feb 1843; John Jonathan, b Aug 1847. This family was in Leake Co., MS by 1850 where their other two children, Necie Amanda 1850 and Matilda Elizabeth 1851 were born. His father probably died before 1830 because there is a John M. GILL listed as head of household on 1830 Monroe Co. census with 2 males age 20-30, 1 female age 40-50 and 1 female age 5-10. The two males could well be John M. and his brother William P. He is also listed on the 1840 Monroe Co. census with wife and 3 children. I really believe he was probably in Monroe Co. much earlier than 1830 but can find NOTHING on this family being there at all other than census records mentioned. If I could find something there, it might help me to trace the John GILL who was his father. Any small piece of the puzzle would be appreciated. Margie
