Hello to the List. I'm new to this list, so an introduction is in order. I am Shirley TURNER (Mrs James) SHIVER. I have been climbing my family tree since the mid 60's, concentrating mostly on my own line. In Alabama, my TURNER'S originated in S.C., but stopped off for a while in Jefferson and St Clair Counties before finally ending up out west in Indian Territory along with my SANDLIN'S. My GARRETT'S, also, were in Tuscaloosa County before going on to Mississippi, then Indian Territory. In the last few years I have turned my eyes southward, to my husband's family. In Monroe County (and surrounding area) my mother in law's family names are: (DUNN; BELL; EVERAGE; THOMPSON; BROWN; HESTLE; LEE & SOWELL). Also, some of my father in law's family (SHIVER) can be found in this area (most of this family is from S.E. Alabama, i.e. PIKE, COFFEE, DALE, etc). I would like to correspond with anyone researching these families, including collaterals. I know that Jim's aunt, Beatrice (DUNN) PUGH of Frisco City was working on a family history before she died. Does anyone know if the Monroe County Historical Society has her work? Is there data available on the history of Bell's Landing? (Particularly, is the family of Nathan A. BELL associated with this place?) AND, does anyone have any data on the HESTLE Family? I can't find a thing about them on my favorite net sites. Or were they, as my friend in Texas says, "Dropped off by a low flying bird?" ;-)! I have some data to share on the above mentioned lines. Thanks, and I'm happy to be aboard! Shirley Turner Shiver
