    3. Hi...I have seen a number of comments on this list about the name of Old Texas, Al. I just acquired a copy of the 125th Anniversary Edition of the Monroe Journal, Nov. 28, 1991, and on page 7, section three, is a short article by NELLE STINSON SMITH. <HOMESICKNESS FOR TEXAS GAVE COMMUNITY ITS NAME by Nelle Stinson Smith: According to county lore, there was an Andrews man who decided to leave Monroe County and go to Texas where cheap, good land could be purchased or homesteaded. After being in Texas for a short time, he was dissatisfied and decided to return home, which is now called Old Texas. His neighbors and relatives found it amusing that he grew homesick. Some of the men would say, "I think I will go and talk to 'Old Texas' for a short time." Fairly soon many men were making this remark and since he lived in the area now known as Old Texas, that is the way the community became named.> I would like to think this is the way the little community received the name "Old Texas."
