Along the ridge top a road ran from the Federal road (established ca. 1811 as a military road along the path of a prominent indian trail) at Ft. Warren (today called Pine Orchard) to the Alabama River at Claiborne (then called Weatherford's Bluff). The community of Ridge was not an organized town and the stores were at a place more commonly known as River Ridge, the location was a few miles north of the old road. The Hamiltons were established just south of the road to Claiborne at a place called Hamilton's Hill. Today, it is more commonly referred to as Hixon. Hamilton Hill is a few miles distant from the Old Salem communtiy, one of the first areas settled in Monroe County. The oldest church in the county stands at Old Salem. I have known members of the family all of my life. One descendant is Jane Hamilton Bradley, former principal at Frisco City High School. Blasingame Hamilton has a son (also named Blasingame) who died young and is buried in a cemetery not far from Old Salem Church. This cemetery is located just off one of the oldest roads in the county. This road connected Claiborne with Monroeville.
