His name was Newitt Drew. He was the minister at Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church. He was murdered on 8-21-1849. According to the an obit written for the Southern Christian Advocate by Ebenezer Hearn he had withdrawn his children from the school. On the 20th he and the teacher exchanged unpleasant words. On the 21st Newitt and others were at the church getting ready for a quarterly meeting. The teacher approached Newitt and hit him with a billet of wood. He died 7 hours later.
