GWJCAL, Hope you don't mind my having gotten a small chuckle out of your reply below re "Indian Princess." We seem to be in the same boat, or nearly. The legend in our family for Mahalaleel CRAWFORD was that he married 3 times (one of whom was an Indian Princess) and had 7 children by each wife. I, too, must give up that idea as 2 wives are all I've found thus far and know not if they were of Indian descent. Still searching for clues to Mahalaleel's wife, Mary (MACE), b SC circa 1802. Believe she might have died in Monroe Co, AL, before 1837 as... it's possible "Mahabel" CRAWFORD, who married Martha WILSON in 1837, could have been Mahalaleel (& make the 3rd marriage a reality). Would appreciate any help with my brick wall. If anyone has heard of anyone with similar given names, please get in touch with me or write to the list. That means that person is 6 generations removed from the genetically pure Indian grand parent. If you figure there are about 4 or 5 more generations since 1910 then a descendent would be 1/512 or 1/ 1024. May be it is time for us to let go of the myth of an Indian Princess grandmother. >>
