I am searching for information on William Brooks and wife Sarah who were born in 1790 and 1795 and lived in the Midway Community of Monroe Co. in 1850. They lived next door to my Great-Great Grandfather.James S. Brooks. I was wondering if maybe they may be my Great-Great-Great Grandparents. He died between 1850 and 1854. His estate is listed in the 1854 land tax records. Thanks
Do you have William E. Brooks married to Sarah Clayton b. abt 1912 who lived in Chickasaw, near Mobile, AL? Jeanette
Hello, I'm researching the BROOKS surname. My gg-gf Felix BROOKS (and family) were on the 1840 census of Butler Co. Ala. His widow Rachel and children were on the 1850 Butler Co. census, skipped in 1860 and 1870, and listed again in 1880. They lived in south Butler Co. and are buried in Sellers Cemetery. Some clues suggest they might relate to the Brookses in Monroe, Conecuh, and/or other counties surrounding Butler. I have done research on Butler Co. Brooks families--John Sawyer Brooks, Samuel Brooks, Drury J. and Drury W. Brooks, and Preston Brooks--trying to connect them to my Felix Brooks. I'm very interested in the Brooks families of Monroe Co. but have not done much research in the Monroe Co. courthouse. Early Cahawba Land Records Preston BROOK 8/6/1836 Butler Co. Ala. S5 T7N R15E Rachel BROOKS 7/10/1852 Butler Co. Ala. S11 T7N R13E***(my gg-gm) Samuel BROOKS 12/9/1825 Monroe Co. Ala. S18 T9N R10E William BROOKS 12/13/1833 Monroe Co., Ala. S6 T8N R10E I have information from other researchers that William Brooks? estate settlement can be found in Monroe County?s Inventory Book C, pages 560-61 (recorded on February 17, 1853). I have not personally seen this record, but, supposedly, it names his heirs: wife, Sarah, and children-- Mary Brooks who married Green Roberts; Jane Permelia Brooks who married Wiley Patrick, Sr.; James Sawyer Brooks who married Mary Jane Devin; [Should this be Mary Jane DRIVER???] Tabitha Brooks that married John Hardee; Henry Brooks; Rebecca Brooks married William A. Litz; Samuel Brooks, Sr. was married three times. The SAWYER surname is also of great interest to me. I know that Benjamin Brooks, who died in Monroe Co. c. 1837, married Prissa SAWYER in Baldwin Co. Ga. 18 Jun 1807, and John Sawyer BROOKS (who died in Butler Co. in 1867--or possibly Conecuh Co.) married Rebecca MITCHELL in Jones County, Georgia, 5 Dec. 1822. I found an estate record for John Sawyer Brooks in the Conecuh Co. Courthouse which names his heirs. One or more researchers say your William Brooks was a brother to John Sawyer Brooks, Samuel Brooks, and Benjamin Brooks, but I have not seen any documentation of this. I found John Sawyer Brooks (later of Butler Co., Ala.), Samuel Brooks, and others in 1840 Macon Co. Ga. A Giles Driver was near them (Is he the father of Mary Jane Driver?). John Sawyer Brooks was still in Macon Co., Ga. in 1850 near a Benjamin C. M. Brooks with an older William W. Brooks (born 1769 in Virginia) in his household. Have you been in touch with Linda Lambert or Shirley Mackley who are also researching your William Brooks?
