In some of his notes he states "the wills of John Jacob Stabler abt. 1844 and his son Samuel, who died abt. 1850 are recorded in Monroe County books 1 and 2. I have contacted the archieves in Montgomery and I am waiting for the information. But I did wonder if anyone has a copy of the actual will and estate papers of John Jacob Stabler (b. 1772 SC)or Samuel? In his notes he states that his estate was to have gone to his wife until her death at which time it was to be divided equally amoung his children but his land was to go to his sons James and Malachi. His son Samuel was in business in Mobile and did not receive any land. His daughter Elizabeth had died but her children received her share. The will did not list all the children but when it was probated these children were listed-Samuel, James, Malachi, Catherine Whissenhunt, Harriet Cobb, Caroline Stacie, and James Bryant hus! band of Elizabeth, deceased. Each of the children received $576.77. The settlement of Jacob's estate was not large, however another estate was probated about 1850, this time for Samuel Stabler and again the same heirs (minus Samuel are listed. The land and property sold on Jan. 2, 1851. Also in the 1850 Mortality Census a Samuel Stabler age 45 died in March 1850. The cause of death was "fits". All of this is taken from his notes. I would like to verify this information. If anyone in Monroe County can obtain the wills and estate papers, I will gladly pay for the copies and research. Brenda

    3. Hi Brenda, I have a copy of John Jacob's will. I went to Monroe County back in November. I could not find an entry regarding an inventory of his estate. E-mail me directly at barbaragerald@comcast.net and I will send you a copy of his will. I descend from Jacob's son James.
