In the 1880 Monroe County Census, James Garrett, HH 9, is 26 years old, listing living alone. Next door, in HH 10, is Jos C. Garrett, age 22, with wife Rachael, age 22, son Edward, 11, and daughter Laura 6. Does anyone know if James and Jos are brothers? If so, who is their father? Thank you. Freda, These would be sons of Joseph Garrett and his second wife, Jane Phillips. Their children were Joseph, Missouri, James, Amanda, and Frances and they were living in Conecuh County in 1870. Joseph married Rachel Andress on May 30, 1872 at the home of the bride, in Monroe County. The elder Joseph lived the rest of his life in Conecuh where he died in about 1875. I don't have the exact date and I believe the death date came from the Centennial newspaper article.
