As for the same name story - it was during a check of the 1850 or 60 monroe census that I noted there were 2 William R Halls in the Burnt Corn PO - the other b. in GA. From my Swedish research I remembered that to avoid mixing their mail - individuals in the same area - 2 Ole Swensons for instance -= one would just take a nickname for mail purposes and as the USPS was just getting started around that time - It finally made sense why family lore only listed him as Ira - perhaps another hint to his Irish ancestry. - now to get the picture posted...
