Ruth, I have to go to work shortly, night shift this week. In the next few days I'll get back to you on what I have on the Loftin's etc. that my dad gathered. Oh yeah, I am in Alabama which makes my research easier. I have so many surname connections in Wilcox, Monroe and Clarke counties from both sides of my family. Hi Ruth, I am a descendant of Alexander Daniel. Actually, I am a descendant of a Daniels who married a Daniel. So, yes it gets confusing when I go back because Daniels becomes Daniel. Alexander Daniel is my grandmother's ancestor. I would like to know more about him. Girl! I'm so excited to hear that. Alexander is the brother of my James Daniel in Monroe Co., AL. After may years of searching, I've recently figured out this Daniel line & yes, Alexander's line added an "S" - while James descendents didn't. That makes for great confusion. You can find Alexander in the 1830 Washington Co., GA census. That's as far back as I could take the Daniel line. Shortly after that census, in 1835 he is in Monroe Co., AL marrying Serena Loftin. Alexander and James matched up the 1820 census info on Amos Daniel and then I find that Amos married Mary Fenn & the Fenn's married the Loftin's. I was very skeptical of the Amos Daniel connection until I found the Loftin connection - which pulled it all together for me. Just haven't proved it with any records that say that Amos is their father - just by following family connections and census. So, Amos is the son of Nathan and Nathan is the son of Joseph Daniel and Sarah Barnes. I communicate with a couple other of your cousins from Alexander - believe that they are both from the son, John M. I'll share their e-mail addresses off list. Now I really have to brake into my old computers records. I'm sorry that I don't have an up to date GED files to send you. But, I must seriously work on getthing the records off my old system-I stopped because I thought my system had a virus. Write any time and would love to know more about your line. - Ruth in Portland, OR ----- Original Message ----- From: "Barbara Daniels" <barbaragerald@comcast.net> To: <ALMONROE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, July 16, 2006 11:49 AM Subject: Re: [ALMONROE-L]Ethridge-Snider-Daniel > Hi Ruth, > I am a descendant of Alexander Daniel. Willie and Ruth, I am interested in information about Isaac "Ike" Lambert SIZEMORE and his wife, Una ETHERIDGE. Ike and Una supposedly had 13 children. Lynn Hastie Thompson's book on William Weatherford lists a son, Fred b. 1937 and Sidney b. 1930. Does anyone have any information on this family to share? Thanks! And, I want to thank him for that suggestion now. And, I wanted to take the time to possibily help others who are looking for a Daniel who is connected with Monroe Co., AL. I read the statement from Grant & it didn't mean much to me at that time because the only thing I knew about my James Daniel b. 1797 in GA & Alexander Daniel, b. 1799 in GA before Monroe Co was that Alexander was a head of household in the 1830 Washington Co., GA census. But, I find that his statement has proven it's self to me. I believe that James & Alexander Daniel are the son's of Amos Daniel (son of Nathan, grdson of Joseph Daniel and Sarah Barnes & greatgrandson of Simon Daniel of Edgecombe Co., NC) and Mary Fenn (dau. of Zacharais Fenn-Rev. War Soldier). Zacharias Fenn rec'd Bounty Land in Washington Co & I believe that Amos and Mary lived on that land. Also, believe that William Daniel b. in 1790's in NC with wife Susannah who also lived in Monroe was part of this same line from Simon Daniel. It's a pretty good bet as they named their sons Simon & Joseph amongst other well used names in this Daniel line. There was a Benjah Daniel who purchased some Monroe Co. land in the 1840's - he's a part of the Edmund Daniel line who was a son of Joseph, who migrated to SC and then later in 1870-1880 many of this line migrated into Conecuh. There was also a Fredrick Daniel who died in Monroe Co. who's Will was recorded in Monroe and it stated him was from SC is also part of the Edmund Daniel family in SC. It's interesting and a little hard to track when parts of families split apart during the migration process and then join back up together later on down the line and some place else. It appears that there are several lines of Griffin's, Barnes', Duke's, Crow's and many other families in Monroe Co., Chambers, Shelby and other counties in AL who migrated pretty much in the same patterns and are all part of the same families. Many of these families migrate to Union Co., Ark and lived in the same communities there. Drusilla Daniel, dau of Joseph Daniel & Sarah Barnes married a Bateman & her Will was registered in Coosa Co. AL. Her Bateman descendents migrated with the rest of them to Union Co. Migrating with our folks from Monroe Co to Union Co., Ark was a John Daniel, b. 1817 in Ga who married Martha Barnes, b. 1827 in AL. And, there is an older John Daniel, b. 1787 in GA with a wife named Frances, who is probably also part of this family. Both these John Daniel's have sons named Berry - which suggests a connection, but I haven't found it. So, regarding your Emily Daniel, marrying in 1800 - I would guess that she's part of this line, if she or someone close came to Monroe Co. Emily is one of the repeated girls names in this line. There seem to be three distinct Daniel lines around the area. One of them, I've described above. Another is in Perry Co., the line of Woodson Daniel, the brother of Beverly Daniel of Raleigh NC. A friend told me that one of her genealogy friends said that she figured that her ancestors were arsonists; because every court house she went to for their information had burned down..ha. that certainly has been the case with my Chisum/Chisolm relatives..donna

Some records can be found in Montgomery at the Ala. Dept. Archives and History. Early marriage records are lost. Some land records, especially those that pertain to the Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek are in Montgomery or you can find them in Tract Books 1 & 2 at the Monroe County Courthouse Probate Archives. These are recreated records and not originals.

Along the ridge top a road ran from the Federal road (established ca. 1811 as a military road along the path of a prominent indian trail) at Ft. Warren (today called Pine Orchard) to the Alabama River at Claiborne (then called Weatherford's Bluff). The community of Ridge was not an organized town and the stores were at a place more commonly known as River Ridge, the location was a few miles north of the old road. The Hamiltons were established just south of the road to Claiborne at a place called Hamilton's Hill. Today, it is more commonly referred to as Hixon. Hamilton Hill is a few miles distant from the Old Salem communtiy, one of the first areas settled in Monroe County. The oldest church in the county stands at Old Salem. I have known members of the family all of my life. One descendant is Jane Hamilton Bradley, former principal at Frisco City High School. Blasingame Hamilton has a son (also named Blasingame) who died young and is buried in a cemetery not far from Old Salem Church. This cemetery is located just off one of the oldest roads in the county. This road connected Claiborne with Monroeville.
Gladys, I am a descendant of Gottlieb Stabler. I don't know of any John Jacob Bryant or any Bryants. He and Anna had twelve children, none by this name. I am descended from his son, John Jacob Stabler. Where did you find John Jacob Bryant as a child of Gottlieb and Anna? Her maiden name was Ross. It is all easy to get mixed up. Can you tell me more about the Ridge? What is considered the Ridge? Do you know anything about the Hamiltons? Thanks, Sarah
