Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/HU.2ADI/513.899.906.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Amy - I found Abel McBay (Sr.) on the 1790 Craven Co., NC Census with 3 daughters and 1 son. Later found him on a Land Record there with another son. First son was Abel, Jr. who was "bound" by Eunice & James Cannon and moved to Hancock Co., GA as a young boy. Abel Sr. must have died and left young children. Abel, Jr. married Polly Butler in Hancock Co., GA. They had 7 children. I have names of 5, one of which was James Madison McBay, my great grand- father. Abel, Jr. also must have died and left young children. I found Polly on 1930 Monroe Co, AL census with no Abel. He must have died there or in Dallas Co., AL where they went from GA. Do you know where Abel was buried? I have not found that. Polly later married William Roberts. I have more info on James Madison's family and some on other children of Abel. E-mail me if you would like more: frednalangston@yahoo.com Are we related?

    1. Thomas W Dean family of 1850 Monroe County, Alabamaan
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Dean Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/HU.2ADI/1641 Message Board Post: Descendants from this family elude me in future censuses. I have the great good luck that they were double enumerated, since they tended to have used both their first and middle names and perhaps even nicknames. Also, in some cases the ages match; in others they vary wildly, but in all cases the birth state is the same. Thomas W. Dean Sr. (possible middle initial M.) aged 45/46 shoemaker born GA Obedience aged 35/43! born SC John (R. L. or T.) aged 22 born AL farmer Nathan (T.) aged 18/19 born AL shoemaker Ann/Lucy A. aged 16/13! born AL Morenza/Edmon L. aged 14/11! born AL Martha/Martha E. aged 12/10 born AL Susanah/Christian/Christina aged 10/8 born AL Trustan L./Tristram aged 6 born AL William (L.) aged 2 born AL With the difference in Obedience's age, it is possible that she is or is not the mother of the eldest children; but Nathan T.'s daughter Julia named her first daughter "Obedience" so I believe she was influential in Nathan's life. Nathan died of disease in the Civil War in 1862 so his life was tragically short. The only child in the above family I seem to be able to trace is Edmond Lorenzo Dean, who settled in Bearhouse County, Louisiana, in 1860; by 1860, Nathan had married Martha Ann BARNES in Ashley County, Arkansas and moved to Texas, only to return to Arkansas in 1862 to his death. Any information appreciated! Amy

    1. Re: [ALMONROE-L] Re: James Richard COLEMAN 1845-1914
    2. I am not a Coleman researcher, so I only have some sketchy ideas for you. There was a Menan Coleman who migrated from Tattnall County GA to Conecuh CO AL in 1818; he was in Monroe County in 1820, and then back in Conecuh in 1830 and in Pollard, AL (Escambia Co, AL) in 1836. He married Argent Jackson, and they had 7 children: James 1805, Benjamin 1806, Nancy 1812, Jessee 1814, Argent (do not know date), Annie (do not know date), and Daniel. James, wife and family are in Monroe Co, 1860 Census (Image 113, Images On-line) and they had a son named Menan. Most of mine were in Butler County AL until the 1885-1890 timeframe, when they moved into Monroe County. I also looked through my random census records of Colemans I couldn't connect to my clan - but didn't see Menan there, either... I wonder where I've run into that name before... Sorry I wasn't able to help... Good luck!
