He appears to be the son o John G. and Elizabeth Ann Fore Middleton. However, Eliz died in 1881; she did have 7 children w/ John. Having scrambled John's and Eliz's before, thoughts anyone? Deborah

After Ben W. Jernigan died, she married Malachi Jernigan. The only other thing that is reasonably certain is that she died on Mar 29, 1914 (I have her dth ctf). I wish I new more about her. If anything ever turns up I'll forward it to you. Please let me know if you make a connection. Thanks, John

Does anyone know if there are any records available before that? I am looking for a marriage about 1831 between John Marshall Gill and Margaret ??. I know that he was in Monroe Co. in 1830 and their first five children were born there between 1832 and 1847 so I'm assuming they were married there. I would love to find out Margaret's name! Margie

    3. Dear All, I seem to recall [i.e. I remember reading it but cannot cite the source] that some census takers used "mulatto" for indicating of Native American heritage in addition to its more technical definition. However, it is most curious to me that the racial designation is not consistent throughout the family. I will [eventually] look through my notes and see if I found information on this family (I believe there was a marriage record) listed in the "White" or "Colored" volumes as well. I, too, have been in contact with the Middleton of color that Grant mentioned. We have several things in common: both sharks <gg -- if lawyers can't laugh at themselves who are they going to charge to do it> and both [likely] related to Willis Middleton. Yr. Obt. Svt., D. A. 3. Hi...it's been some time since I wrote asking for help on my Roberson family. Here I am again. My gggrandfather William Roberson born 1790 married Elizabeth Bonner born 1793. They lived in Lowndes County about 1816 when their son Tye Roberson was born. I need to learn the names of any other children they may have had. A number of kind researchers have sent me marriage and census records, but I have not been able to find this family. Could my dates be wrong? The following census info was sent me: 1850 Census Robinson, William 51 M Planter NC Eliza 43 F Ga Robert T 24 M Planter Al Henry W 23 M Planter Al William 21 M Planter Al James 17 Gilbert Cornelius Charles Martha Mary Kelly Possum The parents' names are right for my family and son Robert T. could be my Tye Roberson. But, the dates don't fit with the dates I have been given by a cousin. Interestingly, this family lives near the Redding Canterbury family. Tye's son Alfred Bennett married REdding's daughter Martha Elizabeth Canterbury. If anyone recognizes any of these names, I would be grateful if you would e-mail me. Children of William and Eliza spelled the name RobINson. I have been told the family lived in Farmersville, Al, near Mt. Willing. Grandson Alfred Bennett lived in Pineapple at one time. He married Mary Alice Wright who lived in Old Texas. Many thanks. Freda Roberson Noble Researching Roberson, Bonner, Sills, Wright, Solomon, Regan, Sims, Godbold, Freda and Ted Noble tnoble@mcn.org

William B M 5 son Allise B F 3 dau. Cornelius B M 2 son >> One thing I noticed was the head of household and the oldest child are mulatto but the mother and other siblings are Black. Can anyone explain why? There seem to be at least two options. One is the census taker could decide by looking at a person what "race" to record. Also, the older child could have had a different genetic father (white) and the younger ones had a black father. The Black MIDDLETON's from Monroe Co. have a common ancestor with the Caucasian branch of the family. At least one black MIDDLETON has contacted John MIDDLETON and explained the relationship. Black families have not tried to deny, conceal, or forget their heritage, with regard to inter racial ancestry, like some of the Caucasians did. I have at least 2 female ancestors who had "out of wedlock" children and some people don't want that information spread around. Those women were white but their relatives and some descendants want to hide the fact they were unmarried. That desire would be even stronger if there was an interracial liaison. Grant
