Cindy, would you please put a description of the Monroe County Heritage Book on the list? Some of us do not understand what will be in the book. Contents? Hardback? How many pages, etc? Will it have genealogy info like the Monroe Journal's Centennial Editions? Would really like to have more info. Perhaps I missed something earlier. Thank you. 3. Hi, Sandra, As I work on my families, I find mention of slaves in wills, etc. I will be happy to copy the info for your list, but my info may be a duplication of what you already have. Most of my info comes from the Internet. I just suspect you have exhausted the info on the Internet. You may be interested in the following which is given in info I received from a Bible belonging to a James Robinson . I am copying it exactly as I received it: "Death of an Old Slave" "The following obituary is found in the _Rising Sun_, published in Newberry, S.C. issue of July 28, 1858, page 2: Cook Lucy, the servant of Maximilian Haynie (commonly known as the Astronomer Haynie), died at the residence of his grandson, Wm. H. Ruff, in Newberry District, on the 30th of June last, in probably her ninety-second year. She was one of the old-time negro servants. She loved her master and his descendants--she knew no interest but his and theirs. She began to fail two or three years before her death: her eye-sight, hearing, and all her mental powers, one after another, gave away, until at last, like the ripe grain, she was gathered into her Master's garner. She belonged to no Chruch, but in faith, believed with the Baptists. At the request of the gentleman at whose house she died, this notice is prepared." 3. Jeff, this internet world is truly amazing. I just put out an inquiry and bingo...I now have Serena's family. Do you have anymore info on her? I am working with several other researchers to try to solve a mystery about a Daniel Jackson Regan or about two Daniel Jackson Regans. My great-grandfather was Daniel Jackson Regan that married Amanda Boles when he was very young. According to one researcher, when Daniel returned to Alabama after the Civil War, he went to Pensacola to live. He married Serena and they had a very large family. There is no record of a divorce between Amanda and Daniel. Also, census records show they continued to have children. I think there were two Daniel Jacksons...perhaps an uncle and a nephew, but it is getting more difficult to understand. I have the names, etc., of Serena and Daniel's children if you would like that info. Would like to hear from you. Thank you very much for being so prompt with the Hinson info. 3. Hi...I am searching for information about Mrs. E. Hinson who lived in Monroe County in 1871. Her daughter Serena Thomas Hinson and Daniel Jackson Regan were married at her house on June 4, 1871. Witnesses were L. Watson and E. Cline, Mg. Any info would be very helpful. Thank you. 1. [ALMONROE-L] RE: Monroe County Families
    2. Shirley Shiver
    3. Hello to the List. I'm new to this list, so an introduction is in order. I am Shirley TURNER (Mrs James) SHIVER. I have been climbing my family tree since the mid 60's, concentrating mostly on my own line. In Alabama, my TURNER'S originated in S.C., but stopped off for a while in Jefferson and St Clair Counties before finally ending up out west in Indian Territory along with my SANDLIN'S. My GARRETT'S, also, were in Tuscaloosa County before going on to Mississippi, then Indian Territory. In the last few years I have turned my eyes southward, to my husband's family. In Monroe County (and surrounding area) my mother in law's family names are: (DUNN; BELL; EVERAGE; THOMPSON; BROWN; HESTLE; LEE & SOWELL). Also, some of my father in law's family (SHIVER) can be found in this area (most of this family is from S.E. Alabama, i.e. PIKE, COFFEE, DALE, etc). I would like to correspond with anyone researching these families, including collaterals. I know that Jim's aunt, Beatrice (DUNN) PUGH of Frisco City was working on a family history before she died. Does anyone know if the Monroe County Historical Society has her work? Is there data available on the history of Bell's Landing? (Particularly, is the family of Nathan A. BELL associated with this place?) AND, does anyone have any data on the HESTLE Family? I can't find a thing about them on my favorite net sites. Or were they, as my friend in Texas says, "Dropped off by a low flying bird?" ;-)! I have some data to share on the above mentioned lines. Thanks, and I'm happy to be aboard! Shirley Turner Shiver
